What is the smallest size indoor heli

What I'm looking for is one that uses normal looking but tiny servos and drives the tail rotor from the main motor power wise. I have a 250 on the way is it the smallest or is there smaller with the above configuration?

Re: What is the smallest size indoor heli

You'd have to go to walkera for that. The v120 series has a shaft driven tail, about the size of the 120sr.

The walkera 4G6 is smaller than the 250 but a bit bigger than the mcpx. I believe it uses a torque tube drive.

While a good fixed pitch heli for beginners, it uses both linear servos and a tail motor.

The 4G6 is an older model now, the V120 series has replaced it and comes w/ a 3axis gyro and FBL head.

Re: What is the smallest size indoor heli

I had a close look at the Heli-Max 125CP which is a rebranded Walkera and it seems pretty nice. A touch bigger than an mCPX but has a torque-tube tail and a brushless main motor.

Aside from that, I'd be tempted to get a Trex 250.

Re: What is the smallest size indoor heli

^^ The 125CP is a 4G6, but now Walkera has an even newer series out that flies even better.

Why the need for "normal" servos and a torque tube / belt driven tail? The mCPX flies great, and apparently the new Walkera Genius (smaller than an mCPX by a bit) flies well too. The genius even has "normal" servos in it, just uses a tail motor.

Re: What is the smallest size indoor heli

It is a well known fact that tail motors suck...

That well known fact goes right out the window with the mcpx. We all fly mcpx's at the club doing some pretty good 3D, and after extending the boom by 1 inch she holds decent.

Re: What is the smallest size indoor heli

As well as the genius and mcpx fly and how durable they are, there is a reason you don't see tail motors in larger helis... because yes they suck. Any variable pitch tail should out perform a tail motor, brushed motors in general suck over brushless and the contacts used on the linear blade servos get dirty thereby introducing more maintenance.

Only issue with a torque tube at the micro size is the gears are so small they strip easily.

No it doesn't or you wouldn't have so many qualifiers in there. "pretty good 3d", "after extending the boom" and "she holds decent" do not make it as good as a variable pitch tail so YES, it's still a well known fact that does NOT go out the window....
