Sig King Kobra Build Thread

i have always wanted to document a build from start to finish, so here goes.... here is the kits as received. it is from the mid 80's. there are the old style aluminum mounts which i may switch later as i prefer the newer fiberglass ones. i have glued the 1/16th sheets and cut them to size. i will be using 3M super 77 contact adhesive which works quite well to adhere the skins to the foam cores.

Re: Sig King Kobra Build Thread

thanks, guys! i wasn't sure if posting was worth the effort as not too many modellers build anymore, so the kind words/encouragement are very much appreciated. well, 3.5 hours in and the wings are skinned and trimmed, the landing gear slots are cut out and the leading edge and trailing edges are in place and the exopy is curing. Ice Road Truckers in on tonight so i will try to get some more sanding done if time permits... john

Re: Sig King Kobra Build Thread

Well, same wing design as the Kougar. Looking good so far. Sig gives you nice wood with their kits.

Re: Sig King Kobra Build Thread

John: slightly off topic but I believe I counted 4 transmitters in your first photo. Why so many in this day of computerized ones. Regardless, good luck with your build. . . Cheers - John M.

Talking Re: Sig King Kobra Build Thread

hey john. i actually have six!! when 2.4 ghz came out there was a huge price drop on the 72mhz radios. i picked up four futaba 4EXA computer radios for $129 each. flight packs were the same price(or more) when you added in the crystal. i didn't see the economic sense of just getting the flight packs as wall chargers/ neckstraps/ switches always come in handy and i essentially got the transmitters for free. you are right phil, the Jett would give me bragging rights at the field, but might be overkill on this plane. more pics this afternoon as my double-double is kicking in now and i feel like doin' some sanding... john
