Prop for Saito 180

Hi

I want to get a propeller for my Saito 180 in a Great Planes Giles 202. I would like to get the most performance from this setup to hopefully do a bit of 3D. I have a Master Airscrew Classic 18x6. I was thinking of an 18x6 prop from Thunderbolt RC, but would like some advise.

Thanks

JetCrazy

Re: Prop for Saito 180

I had a Saito 150 before. If memory serves me correctly I used a 17x6 on my Funtana x100.
18x6 sounds about right for the 180.
Definately get the Xoar prop over the master airscrew.
The Master Airscrew Classic is only good for stiring a can of paint. Back before it was considered a good prop. Compared to todays standards, paint stir stick.
I had the Master A Classic 18x6 on an OS160fx. The prop would twist and cavitate, make lots of noise and not generate much thrust. The Xoar 18x6 was a completely different animal. Stiff, LIGHT....spool up or throttle response was much quicker and responsive was much quicker than the MA.
Good for 3D. Generated a heap more thrust to.
Just my 2 cents

Re: Prop for Saito 180

I'm guessing it is the sport beech wood prop everyone is using and none of the other Xoar props? Also, how does an APC prop stand against the Xoar prop as far as performance?

Thanks

Re: Prop for Saito 180

Thrust was just a touch more with the APC when i did back to back comparisons in the air.
But what was really noticeble was the weight of the APC 18x6w. It was double the weight of the Xoar 18x6. Could cause CG differences. But throttle response and spool up with the APC was noticeably slower.

Re: Prop for Saito 180

Hey Steven,

If you wanna sport fly its an 18x6 apc. 3d could a slightly larger prop less pitch and wise. Maybe a 20x4 wide

No experience on xoar props. Though iv found them a tad tougher then wood.
