Ran my Mate 2cc yesterday just for some diesel fun. Master Airscrew 8x4 prop. Much better than the Zinger 9x4 I ran previously.

Nice running little engine, what's your fuel mix if you don't mind me asking? I came accross a Taplin Twin MK III 8cc last summer and looking to get it running.

My usual mix is home brew 1/3 equal parts Sig castor oil, Canadian tire kerosene and ether from quick start cans (I use them to get my tractor running in the winter). I use MEKP about 1% to 2% by volume for ignition improver.

I also have tried 25 % oil and more kero in ball raced engines.

I had one of those taplin twins years ago. mine was easy to start and tune - if you are familiar with diesels. If you are not, you might want to practice on a single cylinder engine first.

I just noticed that one brand of quick start that CT sells is listed as 50/50 ether/heptane. The other brands also show that they are blended with petroleum distillates. Have you had to compensate for the blend in some way?

Re: Owen Mate 2cc diesel

Interesting, I stopped short a few weeks ago after freezing and draining a can of starter fluid, after noticing the 50/50 thing. Heck I'll just mix some up and try it. To date one thing I have not brewed at home is diesel fuel. I bet my DC Sabre 1.5 would love to be a guinea pig. Does any diesel mix really need more than 30% oil?

(IIRC I got about 120ml of fluid from the spray can)

Re: Owen Mate 2cc diesel

Mike, I have not come across a diesel that needs more than 30% oil. I find the small bushing engines (like your DC) run fine on 30% oil (castor).
