This may be a big surprise to some & may influence things here.

http://www.faa.gov/news/press_releas...m?newsId=19856

If it flies & weighs more than 250 grams it needs to be registered in the US. Not sure if it will apply to Canadians who vacation or travel to the US for flying.

Re: NEW FAA regs forcing registration.

It seems to cover all aspects of flight- basically any RC craft.

Seems to me like the purpose of registration is so the FAA can send you notices (Educational, Safety, etc..)

Re: NEW FAA regs forcing registration.

The question is- are they registering the user or each aircraft?

Re: NEW FAA regs forcing registration.

The article states that each pilot is given a number that must be displayed on the aircraft. Guess I'll need to do this before going to the next US contest!

Re: NEW FAA regs forcing registration.

I think it needs exploring by anyone who flies cross boarder.

If you read the detailed text you will find that only US citizens CAN register. So if you are a snowbird hoping to do some model flying this winter you are ---- out of luck.

Re: NEW FAA regs forcing registration.

That will mean that we will have to show our Canadian registration.

Re: NEW FAA regs forcing registration.

It states that foreigners must have their aircraft 'certified' though they can't register. Not sure what that means yet.

I wonder what this means for international events that are hosted in the US. Hopefully there will be some clarification.
