rc buggy motor esc problem

I have a problem. mI running a hsp 1/10 scale buggy with version 2 sidewinder esc with a tacon 3500 kv motor on a 25 tooth pinion. Im using a 2 cell lipo, I have found motor and esc get really warm really quick? And I can only update the esc with version 1.32 software? Why not 1.33 like my version 1 sidewinder esc?

Hi, just to tell you a little more about this. I thought I had binding in the plastic chassis, so I changed it out, nothing, sidewinder esc still gets real warm quick just driving down the hall in house? And when I go forward then reverse, the esc double clicks or glitches to go into reverse?? Now I have all steel cups in this 4 wheel buggy, but this not sound good. I finally when I turn car off, you can’t push in down hall because the motor feels seizing, then after a while it will loosen up???

May look into a fan attachment for esc. I dont know about them, only seen them .Mostly on lipo style cars.

Re: rc buggy motor esc problem

what about your motor timing settings or even the PWM frequency maybe? Could be set wrong in the esc for that motor.

Re: rc buggy motor esc problem

ESC and motor heating means more of your power is being turned to heat rather than work for you.

You have a few clues in that both heat quickly. This means both are pushing close to or at their limits. It may also be inadequate cooling.

A really simple reason may be your battery falling off under load.

With brushless motors that can mean it is simply geared wrong. They have a rather narrow RPM/V sweet spot so if you lug them down their efficiency drops dramatically.

The same will happen if your settings are off as gixerfien has suggested.

How is your battery at the end of the run? Also hot or puffy?
