Winter Project

Just pondering my project for this winter.

I'm debating over getting an another 100 size AeroWorks Extra 260 or getting into a Carden 100 sized Extra 260. I realize the Areoworks is already built, but a winter project means building it yourself. I was just wondering if there are any pitfalls in building that those of you that have built a Carden know about. Also wondering about the flying characteristics. Comments?????

Re: Winter Project

Hi Steve,
In my experience, the homebuilt Carden design (at least the big ones) just can't be beat in both longevity and performance.
I still haven't flown anything better than the 40% Cardens.

Re: Winter Project

Steve,

If you want a project go with the Carden!

ONLY falback with a Carden is... once you've flown one you won't want anything else!

i was flying my 32.5% Carden Baby Yak 54 today for only the fourth time and it is on rails. makes me look like a lot better pilot.

I'll be flying this puppy next seson for sure!

Re: Winter Project

Hey Steve. Lets order two and save on shipping! I want to get a 40% Carden Extra 300 for next year, but not until I get some other honey doo things out of the way. When were you thinking of ordering?
BTW I agree with Randy that the Aeroworks Extra 260 is the best 35% out there. I wonder how their new Extra (300 or is it the 330?) is.

Why does it look so sad just sitting there in the corner? I think it wants you to take it out and play

Re: Winter Project

Frank... Those Aeroworks fly really nice (I've had 3 so far), but like everyone else says, absolutely nothing beats a Carden.

The thing I like about the Cardens is that you can customize them so much to suit your style and you can't get a more solid plane. Since this past winter, Denis and Caroline also changed the foam density and wood supplier and you save a little over 1 pound on a 35% right off the bat (over 1.5lb on a 40%). It now puts Carden's in same weight range of a Dalton or the more popular ARFs

The downfall is that the Carden's cost a small fortune, so if price point is your issue, the Aeroworks is tough to beat.

My 35% Carden Extra 330 that I built last winter would be an amazing IMAC plane and I hear great things about the 260!

Let us know what you decide!

Cheers

Trev

Re: Winter Project

How about a 35% Dalton Aviation 260 there are a few guys on the Imac circuit that fly these airplanes. I have personally flown one and they fly great, just like their bigger brother the 40% 260. You get carbon wing and stab tubes with this kit and it is all laser cut. No foam on the belly pan (just in case you spill gas it won't eat the foam). The Aeroworks and the Cardens are great airplanes as well I guess it just comes down to which one you like the best.
