For all you collectors of old engines, here is something I came across this in a copy of Popular Science, April 1948 issue. ( the magazine surfaced in my mother in law's home)

Re: A bit from the past (67 years ago)

Here is an add from a 1957 American Modeler magazine showing the Herkimer produced model engines. I had a couple of them way back then. Good memories.

The link is a web page that tells the story of Ray Arden. He is the person who is named the father of the glow plug.

I love this old engine history stuff... funny how we are going back to gas.. seems everything does a full circle over a period of time.. here's an add from around 78-79 for Saito's Gasser... I remember my first engine.. A McCoy 049, good times and cut fingers..

Re: A bit from the past (67 years ago)

$10 was probably over a days pay then. Pretty much like spending over $200 now. That was before CNC machines, so there was less profit in it for the manufacturers. $10 is good for today though.

Re: A bit from the past (67 years ago)

This nostalgic stuff is really interesting. As mentioned above its neat how everything evolves, and the current movement back to gasoline.
