Yes, luckily today things seem to be going a lot better

Randy, we all know NO one has problems with Gas engines, right?? When the gremlins decide to pick on you, there's not much you can do..

bad luck

isnt it funny how that works out some times? .... I had a simmilar day last week, with my boat .... not my rc stuff... I got the boat ready, fueled up etc, tarp covered etc ... just me and my son were going to go fishing at a lake about 1 hour away... my wife decided to bring my other 3 yr old son and 7 yr old daughter,,,, and she wanted me to take the van instead of my truck.... OK, so I unhook the truck, and get the VAN ready,.... well, the lights on the trailer wouldnt work, so I begin to trouble shoot... couldnt find the problem... so I tell my wife that we are taking the truck ... OK... so pack everything in the truck AGAIN.... get going to the lake.... get to the lake and discovered that while I was trouble shooting the lights on the trailer, I didnt re-install one of the lights properly and lost the entire light unit on one side ... only wires were hanging where the light was supposed to be. ...... OK... so back the boat into the water.... go park the trailer, come back, get everybody in the boat... and the battery is dead!........ ask for a boost... I get it.... I get about 100 yds out and the trim on the boat wont work!!!!! battery has a short and the generator wont supply enough to power the trim! ... get the boat back to launch site, get the wife to get trailer into water cause I dont want to turn off motor... get boat onto trailer,... had to ask for another boost just to trim motor back up for towing..... meanwhile my 3 year old son is crying cause were not going boating...... 5 hour day and accomplished nothing!

Heh, I had fun this weekend too.

I was at the Michigan Jets event.

On Friday, on the second flight of my Maverick, I had to land deadstick. After futzing around for 45 minutes, I finally discovered that the ball (for the throttle linkage) on the throttle barrel had broken off, leaving the threads behind. Need a drill press to drill it out, re-tap and install a larger one. I don't bring a drill press with me to events.

Got a great flight on my F-5b, then nearly lost it trying to land. I aborted the first landing, then flipped to high rates figuring I didn't have enough aileron authority at low speed. High rates gave me way too much authority, I was all over the place. Too busy trying to control it to flip the rates back, but after 90 seconds, in which I almost planted it in the pits, almost planted it in the outfiled, almost planted it on the runway, I managed to get the flaps back up and get it steady. Then, while heading towards the flight line at about 45 degrees, I decided to just land the thing. Throttled back, turned to line up with runway and landed about 300' past the flight line. No damage.

Saturday, my friend beside me bought a used BVM .91 engine. I borrowed the throttle barrel (with ball) from it and installed it in my Maverick. I was testing the engine and had it at full throttle, and just tuned right when the DSC cord got sucked into the intake. And into the fan. Fan no longer has ANY blades. And I don't have a spare. And the DSC cord is ruined.

Too much cross wind to fly the F-5b. No flying at all Saturday.

Sunday, I get the F-5b up for a great flight. Land with no flaps, a greaser. Taxiing back, one wheel locks up tight on the axle. Not enough lubrication. And a hatch latch jammed and required that I break it to get the hatch off.

Done for the weekend. Three days, three and a half flights. Not one of my better outings.

But, I did make a deal for a used BVM Viper, with servos, OS .91, fan, retracts (one is broken) and struts. Only $350.00 US.

On to the next one...

...jim

Jim, I have an OS 91 rod you can have that slightly missing the lower section. How's $5 sound?

At least you had three flights, right??
