Anyone flying a Hobbico Twinstar

Just wondering if anyone is flying one of these twin engine ARF's? I am really interested in buying one but need some input. I want to build and fly the DC-3 but a few guys are telling me to get this first.
Any input would be great, I can't even find a store that has them!
Thanks

Hi Steve,
The Arf is discontinued, so your only chance is if someone has it laying around.
I had one of these and flew it for about 10 flights. A fellow in our club bought it new and put it together and flew at our club, then I bought it off him. I was flying it with 2 OS 28F Heli engines, This plane is very very easy to fly twin, so easy, you will be bored with it in no time. I even had one engine cut out on me on the first flight, but had no problem, just cut the other engine and glide it in. It flies more like a 4*40 or a goldberg Tiger.

I could not even get the engines to sync 100%, but still had no problem. Derrick here on RCC bought it from me, flew it for a bit and sold it.

If you want to know anything in particular, let me know.

Also, an old fellow club member has a Kyosho DC-3 Arf sitting which he never finds the time to put together and has bought 2 Brand New OS 26FS engines for it. If that interests you, I can ask him if he wants to part with them.

Yup....I bought and flew Maqsoods twinstar....an extremely forigiving plane and flew well with one engine out. I actually found it too easy and very predictable/boring. Fast though with the 2 OS 28's on it.

Kevin M of Great Northern Models now has it......

Good input guys, thanks a bunch. I want to build the Topflite 82 inch DC-3 with 2 OS 40 LA's on it. I was told to get some stick time on a twin trainer. Judging by what you guys are saying I might be able to just jump right in and fly the DC-3.......
What ya think ??
I fly a UCD 60 and GP's 1/4 scale Patty Wagstaff extra 300S right now.
Should I skip the twin trainer?
Has anyone flown the Topflite DC-3?

Maqsood, thanks but the only reason I want the Twinstar is in preperation for the bigger twin.

You could also check out the link below. I have read lots of good things about their twins and they look more like a real airplane.

I never flew it becuase simply, it needed a bit of work, and I had too much going on and too many planes! (hate to say it but I am out of storage with >23 or 24 planes)

I did want to fly it, but FRank was interested in it so I let it go. Maybe he wants to sell it now?

It was a sticky back covering - yes, the old school type arfs but still flyable

Steve,

I personally think you don't need to bother with the trainer. FLying it is no different than any easy low wing plane, the only thing you will learn is how to handle and sync 2 engines.

I cannot comment on Topflite's DC-3, but I would stay away from LA's. On a twin, the critical part is eliminating all the chances of one engine dying and tuning them to be in sync. LA engines are a little finicky even on a single application, twins would be hard, that is just MHO.

I would hunt for 2 new OS 40 or 46 SF engines or the FSR series engines, if you watch Ebay cloely, you can get them. They are easy to adjust, reliable and very powerful.

I am going to get my Cessna 310Q ready to fly soon, it has 2 OS 46 SF engines on it.
