Re: AR7200BX 7-Ch DSMX

My brother has two Blade 450x with the ar7200. they both fly rock solid
and the ability to customize is great. I also just got a used one from the
Specktrum team. I have yet to put it in a copter. But I have hooked up
some servos to it and went through the programming with the help of
the manual. It was already set up for a 450x so all I was doing was getting
used to the settings. It will take about 45 min the first time. If yours is
already set up it's basically plug and play.

Re: AR7200BX 7-Ch DSMX

The AR7200BX is very good value but has one item that you need to be aware of. If you are using it in a large helicopter (550 and larger), the board tracks are a bit undersized for the power that those helicopters can demand. If you can slightly change your search to the AR7300BX, it is better suited for larger helicopters. If you are putting it on a 500 or smaller, have at it. Another way for small helicopters would be to look for an AR636 w/AS3X. It has a self levelling bailout switch but is only suited for smaller helicopters. I just spent a week with one, fine tuning it for very tight flying quarters and it is a very solid system. Do not use it for helicopters larger than an average 500 (not something like a Goblin). Take care.

Re: AR7200BX 7-Ch DSMX

Learn something new everyday. Coming from many years of fixed wing nitro
I never thought that you would have to consider rx when setting up a large
heli. The 230s is my first heli. I only have 7hr 30min of crash free flying.
By crash free, I mean I can do a pretty good hover and am trying to do
left to right and forward and back. When lucky, I can almost land where I took off.
As you can see I'm new. I am not impressed with the AR636a rx.
I'm on my third one. The first one fried itself when I tried to update it.
The second one tilted the rotor full right when at rest. I had to add left aileron
and fly the disc until it got light on the skids or, if no correction it would tilt
right into the ground. After 7hr 30min a new problem occurred.
After 4 minutes in the air it tried to do a snap roll to the right. It to almost took
full left aileron to level and hold level until I could land. Two more batteries
Same thing happened. Horizon Hobby asked for it back to evaluate.
They reproduced the problem and replaced the rx and say the problem is fixed. The 230 is on its way home now with rx #3. I should have it mid week. Also the AR636a is only for a helicopter and must be programmed by HH. The other thing is, all six channels are used when panic is called for.
I must say, HH has been fantastic with their customer service. Both receivers under warranty with no hassle and even the freight back to me is no charge.
Thanks to Don I know what to look for if I ever get to a large heli.
Right now my AR7200 is to go into my 230 when I put the works into
a 250 size Bell 222 with retracts.

Re: AR7200BX 7-Ch DSMX

The newer version, AR7210BX, can be upgraded to have rescue.
From the spektrum site:

Optional SAFEŽ software and firmware updates can be uploaded with the Spektrum USB programmer (SPMA3030). Both the SAFE software and programmer are sold separately.

Another option is Ikon/ Brain FBL which have selflevel/ rescue. I have used both the AR7200Bx and Ikon/brain units and prefer the ikon, but both fly well.
