That's the way mine works Kip. I cut the shoe off the bottom of a horn, now there's a pun, and epoxied it into the wing at the hinge line of the aileron. Another one bedded into the hinge line of the tab with a set of holes to find the magic spot. Tab hinges are mini Dubro nylons.

Re: Boost tabs, anyone?

So servo tab=standard boost tab. Depending what holes are used in the horns, tab can move more or less degrees than control surface. When I get a chance, I'll mock one up with direct servo to tab control, pull-pull. With an 18-8 at 7000 a few feet in front, should get a good idea how it will fly. How many Sq inches is the average rudder on a 1/4 scale 3D plane? If it works in the vise, I'll throw some wheels on it and see how it taxi's.

Re: Boost tabs, anyone?

As in the pic. the tab has slightly more travel than the up aileron. Why not make the fixed end of the tab be moveable by hand, as it would be mounted on a servo.? then you can feel how much pressure it actually takes to move the control. Just an experiment.

Re: Boost tabs, anyone?

Good idea, do they make an accurate digital fish scale type device? Something that went up to 20lb, so I could also rig up a stand to check static thrust of engines, would be just the thing.
Just had a thought, balanced boost tabs, even less force required.

Re: Boost tabs, anyone?

I have a regular digital 5 lb. scale and I made a bellcrank device so it would work at right angles to test the thrust on my little foamy planes. I imagine CTC would have a half decent fishing scale for a reasonable price.

Re: Boost tabs, anyone?

Boost tab servo tab = same thing, the control tab is the one that actually moves the control surface. You guys do realize that all these tabs move in the opposite direction to the control surface. If you want to check to see if they are effective, take your model out on a windy day and have a buddy hold it over his head.

Re: Boost tabs, anyone?

Yep. That's the way they are in my pic. No other way they can work.

Re: Boost tabs, anyone?

Actually, I've read of a small servo, right in the control surface, controlling the boost tab. Don't see any reason why it wouldn't work, especially if mass balanced.
