hey guys.i just picked up a saito twin 130fs.my question is what percentage of nitro should i run with this engine.i,ve heard comments about these engines where the engines over 80 and up are real finniky to set up.i have other satios 50-80 size with no problems.answers most appreciated.

3Dflyer,
I have 3 Saito 150's and they are very reliable and run great on just about any fuel. I currently run 15% Omega and have great results although I am thinking about changing to cool power for next year as I don't want to clean off the burnt castor. I however, do not try to squeeze every last drop of power out of my engines, I run most of my engines richer than most of the flyers I fly with. I have Saito 150's in 120 size planes like the Goldberg Extra 300, Goldberg Sukhoi and Midwest Giles 202, and Goldberg Buker Jungman. I would rather have a slightly larger engine and not lean out my engine to max RPM. Although, like anything else, 20 people will reply with 20 different opinions on which fuel is best. One thing however, a natural castor blend like Omega does better at fighting rust. GB |

i always run my engines on the rich side never lean.my other fourstrokes run on any kind of ten percent nitro with no problems.but like you mentioned one person will tell a diffrent thing and then someone else will tell you something else.in the club i belong to .some of the guys that have satios 120 and larger seem to have problems with their engines.iv,e also seen the same problem at other funflys.
this is my first satio twin.this is why i thought i could get some answers by posting this question.thanks.

I've owned Saito engines for years. Everything from a 50 up to a 1.80 and have never had any serious problems with any of my engines. I consistantly run Cool Power 15%. For setup, I peek out the engine on the high end and then back the needle off for a 2 - 300 rpm drop which assures a run on the "SLIGHTLY" rich side.
If you run them too rich you will find that the exhaust valve will carbon up causing the exhaust valve to stick and you lose compression. I've repaired 3 engines for friends this year all with the same problem of running too rich and the exhaust valve carboned up. Most folks think that running an engine very rich is a good thing but not necessarily for the above reason especially if you use fuel with any castor in it!!!. If you check the Horizon Hobby website you will see that they recommend up to 30% nitro in their engines 1.20 and larger. Check your Saito manual and you will find the recommended high speed needle setting is pretty much as I have explained above.
