Just an update to say that I finally got the trainer in the air again.

To fix the breaks, I dug a U-shaped trough across the breaks with a rotory tool, and used polyurethane glue to stick a piece of dowel cut in half lengthwise into the trough. I decided on the PU glue to fill any gaps.

Took her up a couple of days ago, and she flies just like before. I was practising approaches when the motor died at the far end of the runway. Not enough speed to get it turned around, so I brought her in a little hard and flattened the gear. Okay, more than a little hard.

Boy this little plane is tough

Ben

There's a rely easy way to fix that. Use a hyperdermic needle, fill with thin and inject it slowly. You don't have to slice the plane up, or peel covering. Needles can be had at the drug store. Smaller the better. As you inject watch carefully as you see ca start to wick out, stop cause that's enough. You'll only have a little pin prick in the covering. Easy.

I believe the other plane, the Klein Extra, is Mike Mancuso.

I've tried the thin ca in a syringe before.

It glued the plane really nicely. I did not have any wicking evident on the exterior of the plane though. When I pull the needle away, a stream of glue came out. Landed on the bridge of my nose. Flowed either way and glued my eyes shut.

I was able to dunk my head in the sink, and I just kept rolling my eyes. I knew the water would kick the ca, but I couldn't gt it out any other way. Luckily, all I got to show for it was burns on the surface of my face for a week. I'm not sure what degree they were, but the skin was red, and there were huge blisters on my nose. Burned like hell.

CA is applied from the bottle, or a stick or rod from now on. No more injecting the stuff.

Hahaha... Frank, as I read your post I was thinking "I wonder if Mike has read this..." then I saw that there were more pages and he had already replied

I think I'll stick to the patch method and that way I won't have to worry about pressurized CA-induced injuries.
