OS 10X Flight Sim

Hi there.

One of the best flight sims (real aircraft) runs on Mac's, Linux, and Windows. It is named X-Plane. The current version is 8.XX.

This flight sim is actually FAA aproaproved pilot training. It has excellent real world flight dynamics. Some have actually used this program to design real aircraft and check out the flight characteristics before building the real one.

We use this simulator along with an USB interface cable from MileHighWings. I use a JR 10X and my friend uses a Futaba, both work very well. I have since tried them with a JR 631 and a Quatro trainer box, all okay.

The flight sim has two positions that are good for R/C. On the runway and in the tower. I grant you that it is not as good at R/C simulation as some of the dedicated one, but it has the added advantage of learning how to pilot a real craft. Like Microslops 2004 Flight Sim there is detail of the whole planet. However this is huge in size if all areas are wanted (35 Gigs).

You can download the actual working program which will fly in demo mode until the program is purchased. Works fine for 6 minutes as a trial.

There are hundreds of free aircraft around the internet and some you would have to pay for. I bought a DH Otter on wheels and floats. I really like flying this thing past the tower, sure looks real.

The R/C planes are so so. The Zagi electric is very close to the real thing. The Great Planes PT60 is very fast. The good thing is one can use a program call Plane-Maker that comes with X-Plane to change just about any aspect of the plane.

The cost is VERY reasonable. X-Plane with free upgrades is ~$79 and the MileHighWinds interface is $39US.
