Baby powder was not off much as we used it in the OLD DAY'S. Was a good filler with dope. Unscented of course, did not want the wife to know.

unscented Talc (Baby powder) is great for filling the weave in fabric (I still use it), I'd never thought of using it as a filler, it would have to be a fairly thick slurry to use as a filler....

Rules for using panty hose or stockings.
1) Any brand or colour should work. Hanes covers curves particularly well.
2) Ask you wife permission first.
3) Make sure she still isn't in them when you apply varnish.
4) AVOID FISHNET STOCKINGS!! They will get you into trouble, on or off an airplane.
5) If the panty hose you're using did not come from your wife, DO NOT BLAME ME.

If I understand correctly, the pantyhose is used in the place of fiberglass cloth (or any other modellers cloth)?

What about doing a whole wing with it? Whole plane?

It would make the compound curves alot less of a headache.

Jim,
I use to use it with glue as a stiffner especially when I was out of the country and other items where hard to find. Used foot powder also
For covering a wing or fuselage it is easy with the panty hose especially now as you can get seamless. It stretchs good and one pair will do a wing. One leg for each side. If you take your time you will have no snags(runs) and cover everything including the ailerons. Apply a coat of sealer and then trim. I have done it this way as an afterthought when refinishing.

You say "including the 'rons". What about the leading of the 'rons? They get no nylon treatment in this example. How is that resolved?

As mentioned it was an after thought when using this method. The leading edge of the ailerons does not get covered but the top and bottom surfaces and trailing edge do. After sealing it down I trim the joint for the ailerons and then apply a sealer coat and finish from there. Makes a nice job.
I don't have an example as my last one I had is long gone. You can try it on something smaller to check but I know it worked for me.
