Re: pilot rc decathlon? areoworks super cub?

Brodie, go for the decathalon, the cub is fun, but it's a cub, meaning very limited in the major fun factor, plus the decath just looks cool.
I have the AW cub, it's fun to fly, but it just limited in what you can do with it, that is if you want it to last any amount of time.

Actually Real Super Decathlon's Like the Pilot RC's version do have Flaps
EDIT: they are called scouts.... my bad... but who cares....
They all look the frigen same, no wonder the company went broke.

the Citabria and standard Cub's did not have flaps.

Hate to tell you, but neither Bellanca nor American Champion Aircraft has EVER built an 8KCAB Decathlon or Super Decathlon with flaps. The only airplanes built by either company with flaps have been the 7GCBC Citabria and the 8GCBC Scout, unless you count the Bellanca Vikings and their predecessors. The Decatlons are certified for most aerobatic manuevers with the exception of tailslides, I believe. Flown with a basic 4 channel radio, the Decathlon will reward you with very nice, scale aerobatics. You don't need dual rates, expo, or any of that stuff to have fun. After all, I've never flown a full scale aerobat with any of that stuff, just a stick and rudder pedals. That said, both the Cubs and Champs etc. are fantastic stick and rudder planes that can teach you all that you are willing to learn.

Re: pilot rc decathlon? areoworks super cub?

Hi Brodie,

As Brad mentioned ivemgotmthe 122" Pilot Decathlon With a ZDZ 80 in it. It's a very nice combo and flies really well. I can perform all the scale aerobatics with it and if I want get crazy and hover and torque roll it.

My buddy has the 107" Pilot Decathlon. I helped him assemble it and I can tell you that you'll be fine with the manual for either model as they assemble in exactly the same manner. He is flying his with a DLE55 and the performance envelope is about the same as my model.

Here's a video of the maiden.

If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Re: pilot rc decathlon? areoworks super cub?

Thanks for the info. Ever since I saw a carbon cub this summer I've been thinking about a nice areobatic high wing and I've been hearing lots of good things about pilot. And everyone out here has areoworks stuff including me lol wanted to try something different lol. I was looking at some bill hempell stuff but read a lot of bad reviews from builders on flying giants saying they were cheaply maid and no hardware at all or fuel tanks etc.

Re: pilot rc decathlon? areoworks super cub?

I own a 40% Pilot Decathlon and it's a well made plane.

I also have a RC Guys Decathlon with a DLE 55 in it.

The RC Guys plane is poorly made.

Horrible covering that won't stay on and most of the hardware needs to be replaced. The plane does fly well.

Pilot offers free wood parts if you damage your plane, another positive option to think about.
