I have stored most of my glo planes inside since I moved to a townhouse where the basement/garage/laundry room double up as my hobby room. However I have sold most of my glo and have bought some gas planes which are larger and cannot be hung on the ceiling or wall.
I made some horizontal hangers on the garage wall where the fuse sits on foam covered L bracket this spring/summer. Now that winter is coming I'm having second thoughts of leaving them there. AJ mentioned to keep them dry just like his shed for the electronic portion of it. It has raised concern for me coz the garage does get very cold and also damp during winter.
I guess I need to find a place inside where the planes can store horizontally. This is my first winter for the planes to be out if need be, but if the temp causes undue warping or corrosion on my electronics then I do need to consider other options.

Really - I have had NO issues at all.

Compared to indoor storage, the main differecne is that all my covered planes which used to get really saggy in the spring, dont. The planes since they are stored outside now never need to get re-ironed.

The cold seems to REALLY be good for the Nicad and NIMH's. To be fair, I havent had any lipo experience in the cold. But my batteries that are outdoors have usually near full charge in the spring, as they did when they were put away. I think the cold is really good for nicads and nimh's as they dont tend to self discharge. My batteries stored indoors used to always self discharge.

Thge cold has never affected negatively any receiver, any transmitter (many, like 4 or 5 airtronics computer radios and my 10X has been out there for the past 6 years or maybe 7). My chargers like accucycle, and accu. +, etc are also stored out there without problem. I even store my turbines out in the same shed.

The cold has not been any issuse with any engine - and it shouldnt be. The worst thing for our engines is MOISTURE. Warm, cold or anywhere inbetween, make sure its dry. Our winters in the north are very very dry (like <20% humidity) so I have never had any corrosion issued with my engines. In the south, where it may be more humid I cant say.

I really havent had anything negative happen that I can think of in the past ten years of outdoors storage- other than rubber bands tend to go "bad" in the extreme cold but thats pretty much no problem.

If anyone has had things go "bad" due to the cold (and can prove it was due to the cold temps), I would love to hear about it also.

Re: Model Storage

Oh yes, one thing I can comment on...

I do store all my glow fuel outside as well, and I havent had any issues. I tend to have a lot of fuel (like boxes and boxes worth) at a time and I woudlnt want it in the house anyhow.

If you have a fuel with some castor in it, it will probably turn into white flakes in the extremem cold. It will go back into the solution once you warm it up. If I want to fly, I just bring the jug I want to use indoors for a bit and let it get back to normal. Then I go flying!

DO NOT take the cap off and on while the fuel is cold, in the warmness of the house. Condensation will form on the inside and contaminate the fuel! Just keep the jug sealed and you will be fine.

Re: Model Storage

I am just curious...

For the majority of votors who have votedit is not a good idea to store your models out in the garage year round...

WHy not? From what negative experiences are youbasing your descision on? Or is it simply opinion without any experience (which is fine, I am just curious)?
