I ordered some indoor planes from DualSky. They arrived at the Customs on Sept. 12 for inspection and they are still there?

2011/09/12 22:24 MISSISSAUGA International item arrived in Canada and will be reviewed by Customs
2011/09/09 17:54 International item has left the origin country and is en route to Canada
2011/09/07 13:43 International item mailed in origin country

Recently, I also received a US$55 parcel from HobbyKing via Singapore Post and the Customs first converted the amount to 80+ Canadian dollars and then charged GST on the it and about $8 processing fee. There must have been some mistake there.

Whenever you get a customs bill you an always fight it. Did you have hobbyking reduce the value for you? I think their standard is 30% but you can choose the value. Customs does have the right to change the value of an item because they know a lot of stuff comes in valued lower.

What I don't get is the Prime Minister galavanting all over the place and signing "Free Trade" agreements. What exactly does that mean? IF a parcel comes from a "Free Trading" partner country, why does CC have to be involved?

Free trade means no import duties. There are NO DUTIES on hobby parts, however, the gov't wants their taxes... regardless of whether you buy it here or in another country.

For those that have forgotten, here are in the postal import info again. It hasn't changed in the past few years, however the enforcement of the rules may have increased:

Well......I don't bemoan the fact that the government gets it's sales tax. The tax would even be more if you bought at a non-discounted price. What I can't see is why CC charges an $8.50 processing fee that until a short time ago used to be $5.00 and it's their job anyway!! Can you imagine a supermarket checkout person tacking on another $8.50 to the bill for processing your groceries??

We got too start paying for stuff like this since salary raise has risen faster than taxes, the truth... hurts. I would like to pay rather then end up in the situation Greece is in right now. Remember, we cannot have it all.
