Balsa Suppliers in Canada

Does anyone know of any balsa suppliers in Canada?
I mean other than the LHS.
I have a laser cutter I have built recently and will be cutting kits for myself and club members.
But sourcing balsa in large enough quantities is becoming difficult and expensive.
I saw Hobby Woods Online listed here but their website doesn't seem to be active and I haven't seen any posts for a long time.
Would prefer a Canadian source.

Have you contacted Don's Balsa in Grimsby?

Bill.
Called Don today.
What a great guy. Super friendly and I sure he'll have everything I'll need moving forward.
And by the way, it's his birthday today.
Happy Birthday Don!

Re: Balsa Suppliers in Canada

Hello Andrew, I'm curious what kits will you be cutting? How are you going to program your cutter? Autocad DXF/DWG? I have been toying with the idea of buiding a small .40 sized nitro plane from scratch, drawing it up in Autocad and then cutting by hand, but I have doubts about my abilities to do this totally from scratch.

Are you copying plans, or designing your own?

Post a build thread when you get going on one!

Re: Balsa Suppliers in Canada

Hey Paul.
I am doing a combination of existing plans and my own.
I scan the plans or a 3 view into Turbocad.
I then trace the plans or use the 3 view to create my own design.
I then save to dxf and import that into Cambam.
I use Cambam to arrange the parts into a cutfile and generate g-code.
I feed the g-code through mach3 which drives the cutter.
It's not that difficult to do your own from scratch.
Go for it!

Re: Balsa Suppliers in Canada

The biggest problem I have is that I work on Autocad every day, and bought a copy of Turbocad for use at home. It seems like a pretty powerful cad program, but there is just enough different from Autocad that it frustrates the crap out of me, so I working my way through the tutorial package that came with it. As soon as I can find some extra time, I'll get serious about it.

Are you drawing in 3d, or all plan view?
