The Aeronautical lab kit sold by Radio shack in the early 80's?

SXF-4000 was the model. I got it from my dad for Christmas. It contained a few built up stick and tissue rubber kits, a few model rockets and some other neat stuff.

It was one of the best presents I remember getting. Started my love for stick and tissue FF, model rockets and more.

Kids need more stuff like that today.

Re: Any one remember...

No , but I remember one Christmas I got a Guillows kit , think it may been a Hawker Hurricane . One of those die crunched micro kids , with rubber band for power. Don't remember if I ever got it to fly. It was great fun. Had to cut out the pieces with an old double sided razor blade. Mother taped over the opposite side so I didn't cut myself.

I think I recall wanting that for Chrstmas when I was a kid.

One year I did receive some Sig rubber powered stick and tissue planes, that is what started this addiction. now how can is stop it????????

Wow it still exists maybe I should buy one just for old time sake lol\http://www.greathobbies.com/producti...rod_id=SIGFF15

Re: Any one remember...

Ive built a whole lot of GUillow kits over the years, even flew some free flight with a Cox .020 engine.

Built all the Sig rubber kits - they are still IMO the best deal in vintage rubber stick and tissue kits. Plus they fly great. Guillow planes are heavy and over built for rubber. But they were fun to build.

Im trying to cut a deal with a woman in the US for one of these old Radio Shack kits, from the early 80's. Trying to relive my youth with my own kids..

Re: Any one remember...

Yup.. I remember my brother got one for Christmas, he never touched it and he wouldn't let me touch it. They're still available on eBay.

Re: Any one remember...

And how about the electronics kits. Started getting the small (20 in 1??) at Christmas in the early 70's then Father got me a bigger one each year. Spent hours with them.

Re: Any one remember...

I remember it myself, seems to me one of the rockets was a catapult launch, and there was a canister of helium to build a balloon in there as well was there not? I learned the hard way why the instructions said to not catapult launch the rocket horizontally, never seen something go through a plate glass window quite that fast lol

Re: Any one remember...

Those kits sound like they were a lot of fun.

Still have a pristine rubber and tissue machine in a box. Should do it up even if a static model.

Thats right - the side of the tube was cut and hinged to allow the parachute to come out.

I remember saving for my first package of Estes engines... sent a money order away and waited for what seemed like an eternity. Back then, I always got my parents to get a cheque or money order, and send it to the company with your order... then wait 6 to 8 weeks for the goods!
