I had a H9 540 and I fly it with 2 motor a 180 saito and a ZDZ40.
The caracterestic of flight change a lot depending of the motor you use.
Take the 180 saito or YS140 and you have a nice light airplane to play with.
Take the ZDZ40 and you add 1.5 pound and you still have a good plane but heavier and you fill it specially at low speed and at landing. You have to land faster and it tend more to tip stall.
personally I tink all the plane of that dimension are not very good for gaz.
The weight become to high and you easily add 20% to the weight of those small plane.
This was one of my favorite plane I had with the 180.
Good season Normand

H9 edge with zdz 50

A local Ottawa guy has an H9 Edge with a zdz 50 in it. Flies really nice. He had to do some mods to it, but it turned out nicely. He documented all the changes he had to make too.

3D on the 30% lanier edge?

The 3D capabilities of the 30% Lanier Edge are limited only by the pilot. I'm glad that I went with the ZDZ 80 for power. It has tremendous vertical, pulls out of a hover easily. I find that I need about 3/4 right aileron to stop it from torque rolling. I set 3 degrees right thrust and it isn't enough for the 80 in the vertical lines. I've been successful hovering it, and not so bad at torque rolls. I don't have enough throw on the elev. yet to harrier or wall yet. I have digital hitec servos and just ordered a programmer to increase the swing from 120 deg. to 180 deg.

If you come to the Kingston Rally I'll let you try it!!!

thanks for the info, and great offer, although im a little far away to accept

however i appreciate you answering my question, it seems as strict imac planes are being phazed out, you gotta make sure your getting a freestyle capable as an imac flyer, and not take it for grant that everyone is building them like that, just cause most are.

thanks

I have the 1/4 Lanier Edge pulled by a Moki 2.10. Great 3D, but could be a little lighter. Does the Wall like none other and hovers nice, but you gotta land it with a little speed. The Moki turns a 20-10 carbon prop at 8000rpm, and verticle is absolutely unlimited. Hovers at 1/3 throttle.
I am running about 55 degrees elevator (each way) and plane likes it, except tends to snap out a bit with lots of down (inverted wall).
I personally like the lanier for 3D becaude it has a wider wing cord compared to the H9 edge
