Re: First trainer - New fixed wing pilot

Hi

So.. if you have a couple of evenings there are great "kits" that are really cheap and cheerful. They will save you money as they are hard to break and easy to fix with tape, hot glue etc. (By way of background I am completely self taught and graduated from a Skyfly through to my flat 3D toys. (Yeah I still smash em up)

The GWS stuff is amazing value and with brushless motors on it is hard to beat. The Slowstick can be flown by anyone and I do mean anyone but it is not for windy days. That said, I have one I have added ailerons to and it can handle quite a bit:

+ YouTube Video
ERROR: If you can see this, then YouTube is down or you don't have Flash installed.

Having said all that, there is also the Estarter - which can be built with or without ailerons. It is a true trainer and yet with an el cheapo brushless on it you can do many crazy things that will feel like "extreme aerobatics" to you for quite a while. (eg. Inverted, prop hang, knife edge etc). Okay purists please don't yell at me... that is whay I said "feel"

BTW - I also love my easystar and do support all the recommendations for a simulator.

Bottom line - there are a ton of choices and they will all be fun! But like most will tell you, start cheap and cheerful as that way you will graduate quickly and without too many tears or regrets.

Cheers

CP

PS: Last thought: There are few things more frustrating than having to wait for some overpriced spare part that is causing you to miss great flying weather!

I think the best bet then would be the Nexstar mini EP pnp, now I just need to find a LHS that sells them.
