Hinging
I am building my first glider and they talk about doing Live Hinging. Is this where you use the covering material to create the hinge by covering one side with film, bend the moving surface back on itself and then cover the other side?
Suggestions/comments/advice appreciated. Chris |

Re: Hinging
I believe you are on the right track Chris. A live hinge uses the same materials as the two surfaces you are joining together. What model are you building?

Re: Hinging
Thanks for the input. I was thinking about the sewn hinges, I used them on CL models back in the early 70's, but did the live hinges on the rudder last night and they turned out well. One issue I had was that after doing the hinge the rudder deflected easily to one side but not the other. I ended up bending the rudder to the bad side and applying heat to stretch the covering so that it would deflect the proper amount to the bad side. Any suggestions on how to allow enough gap when doing the hinge/first side?

Re: Hinging
Chris, I make a cheater hinge some times. Using my clear photo finishing mylar. I bond two pieces adhesive/adhesive. The cut to make what we used to use as cloth hinges. Just a few then start with the side that gets folder over. Finishing with the top piece we will call it.
You experienced the same reason I sew my rudder hinges. Hope this helps. -Dale- 100% free webcam site! | Awesome chicks and it is absolutely free! | Watch free live sex cam - easy as 1-2-3
