It just kinda dawned on me that . . .

I'm getting into bigger and bigger planes. It used to be that I only had 40 sized ones but now I have mostly 60's and bigger.

I never made the conscious decision to go bigger, it just kinda happened. I can't explain it but maybe that's the way it is with this game.

You get older (no cracks Ian) with more discretionary income, you want to get something bigger/better/whatever and before you know it, you're into scale planes and giantscale and ooh boy, the $$$ start moving up exponentiially.

How was it for you? Did you one day say to yourself: I'm going bigger.

Or did it come upon you like it did me, just one day sort of realized:

Hey, I'm into bigger/more power / oddball etc etc? without a conscious effort to do so.

Maybe a poll for the fun of it

Most of my aquisitions weren't planned as part of a growth/advancement strategy...they just sorta happened. I come across a deal that is too good to pass up, and a bunch of years later I end up with a shop full o' airplanes.

I forgot to add one option: it just sort of grew on me without me realizing it.

I can't adjust the poll questions. Is that normal that the options can't be modified (like a message can be modified)?

My largest plane from 1991 until now has been mostly 40 to 90 size planes. Last year I flew a Midwest Giles 202 73" span with a Saito 1.80 and was my first year competing in IMAC SA!

Need I say more? LOL. The fellows in IMAC consider the Giles a small airplane and big planes do fly better and look better all around in competition so.........

For the coming season I will have two new planes to fly competition with, a Dave Patric Edge 540T 79 1/2" span with a DA50 gasser! And my pride and joy will be a scratch built by MOSS 34% Hostetiler Edge 540 103" span powered by a DA100 twin cylinder gasser!

For Sport and just plane fun (pun intended), I'm building a Sig 1/3 scale Spacewalker powered with a Zenoah G38!

So I suppose you can say I have been bitten by the "getting bigger" bug! Man, I remember one of my first trips to the flying field as a student with my .25 powered Endro-Plane and watching a fellow fire up his Goldburg Super Chipmunk with an OS .61 and thinking to myself....I will never fly anything that big with that much power...LOL! Its amazing how times and attitudes have changed! Now I look and Mike Clemmens fire up his large 50% scale plane and say to myself....I will never......LOL! But never is a long time so now.....who knows?

You missed one in your poll

I started with some .40, went with some .15, tried some .60 sized, building a .90/120 size (albeit with a 1.80) and a .25 sized and even have a few electrics. You need a selection for liking variety.

I'm in it for the variety, pure and simple

Bob

I still get that feeling Gary even though I'm up into the 60-80" range now. Not big by some standards but bigger than I'm used to.

I usually just buy what I like within my means...Engine size just follows.
When you start going up to planes like 50% scale, I would ask myself (just like I do when gambling) Can I afford to lawn dart this ship???
And, does size really matter? I get to fly anyway...
Also, If I decide to sell my large ship, is it too expensive for the average flyer?
Who knows, when I get to Len's age , I may change my tune.
