Rubber hose on muffler?
Im trying to come up with a solution for keeping the fuel residue off my plane. I thought about using a long rubber hose from the muffler and run it through the fuselage and out the tail-end. I heard that it would give more power to the engine but I also heard that it would take away power from the engine . I don’t know what to believe .

If it is a 2-stroke engine, you will lose power.

Tie the other end of the hose to something heavy, and throw it into the lake! Then you can switch to E-power

You could try the hose but, it will effect your engine, probably negatively and in strange ways. Glow fuel contains allot of power and oil, as a side effect, allot of mess. Some aircraft get messier than others. Synthetic fuel is not as messy and having your exhaust deflected under the plane will improve things as compared to it on the side. unfortunately though the mess is "part of the fun". If you have deep pockets you can go electric. Gasoline is very clean but again deeper pockets.

Synthetic fuel, and exhaust out the bottom, as Russ said, are the best remedies.

Tried many different things.
None were successful. Difficult to keep on. Engines tended to overheat. Power loss. I finally, got used to cleaning up the plane after a flying session.

One of the guys in our club (builds hot rods for a living) got tired of wiping the mess so he rigged up an extension of light aluminum tubing that has it's end attached to his main gear.
First time he showed up at the field he was cautioned "You'll lose power by doing that!". "Oh, you think so?" he replied as he pointed the nose up and sent it vertical. It didn't slow down until he backed off the throttle, just before it became too small to see. The secret is not to cause a restriction that causes backpressure limiting the ability of the engine to exhaust the spent gases and and aspirate the fresh charge of fuel and air from the crank case. I know I have done the same thing with a chunk of Tygon(tm) tubing. Inner ID of the tubing was larger than the exit of the muffler and I experienced no reduction in performance. Keep in mind both these planes are sport planes, and are not highly tuned engines where every little detail is critical to optimal performance I gave up on it though as most engines I have seem to bleed slime from places where I cannot see the oriface, so it becomes largely pointless given my leaky engines.

Oil residue
There are those who use fuel with synthetic oil. Yes, it leaves your plane a little cleaner but...it's because the majority of the oil is being burned in the engine when it should be getting released from the exhaust taking engine heat with it. Just a thought.

There is one other thing that can be done but it is a deep pocket solution. You can purchase a special header and long tunned pipe like the pattern boys use. I would imagine though the price of those units would buy alot of paper towels and windex. It might be as expensive as going electric!
Oh ya rubber hose would melt! Silicone hose is what you would need.
