Question coaxial heli

Remove this ad - become a site supporter!
I am looking to try out heli's in the winter to fly indoors. Looking for an affordable good coaxial heli. Not sure what to look for as there's so much to choose from. Walkera? Eflite Blade?

Any advice would be appreciated.

I would be a beginner in the heli department

Thanks
Jack

Re: coaxial heli

Jack,

Any co-axial helicopter would work and benefit you. It all depends on your budget, preference, LHS parts support, and technical support.

If you can, supplement the co-axial helicopter with a good simulator. The simulator will aid in saving money after you graduate from the co-axial helicopter to a fixed pitch or CCPM helicopter.

Hope this helps...

Most important, have fun and seek advice from experienced pilots.

Thanks,

Gordon

Re: coaxial heli

My friend started with the E-Flite mcx and he mentioned that it is a stable and newbie friendly co-axial heli. Now he is stepping up to the walkera fixed pitch micro helis.

Also, as Jiver mentioned...check you LHS if they carry parts on which ever heli you will be buying. It is a bummer and add more frustration than enjoyment if you break parts and there is non available at hand.

You can also take a look at the new E-Flite blade msr. From what I read and reviews, it is also a stable heli. It will be more handful for a beginner, but you will grow up from co-axial anyways.

Re: coaxial heli

I purchased a Blade mCX about a month ago. It's very stable... to the point that you can let your thumbs off the controls once its trimmed and it will remain in position for 20-30 seconds. My 10yr old was flying it a bit this afternoon. It's good for initial training to get the hand/eye coordination. Well built too.

It's an indoor heli only. It can't keep up with even a slight breeze.

Re: coaxial heli

Being a single rotor fixed pitch, it will be hard at first for sure.

I did not start with co-axial, but with a fixed pitch single rotor indoor heli which is the Hirobo SRB Quark. No sim training and real heli experience. I just bought it from reading good reviews of how stable and beginner friendly the heli is. It is all true! I learned how to hover on my 3rd battery pack. After a few more packs...I was already doing small flight forward with little left and right nose directions (all in tail in orientation). But that comes with LOTS of main and tail foam blades replcement. I am now doing FF, 8s and nose in flying. It is a great trainer! When I got my Trex 450, I never had to put training gears on. My flight times with the Quark prepared me for the basic hover and FF. But going 450 from micro is a big step and it is a different story.

There is one MSR thread a few threads below giving their opinion with this little heli.

Re: coaxial heli

The little MSR is top of the line right now. Hovers like a twin rotor for half a minute no sweat. Out of the box, trim it like a plane, ail, elev, and rudder and just have fun. As a trainer it needs to be fairly durable and this little sucker is tougher than nails. Bouncing off the walls, the plants, side of the house, ended up on the roof twice. After about 100 flights, I've replaced the blade holders Which cost $3.95 thats it!! The heli sounds expensive but the charger that comes with it costs $40 bucks retail by itself. Can charge 4 batts at once. Just a fun little chopper. Jeez !! you'd think I owned the company.
