There are three clubs in Sudbury and Craig and his newly minted committee are wrestling with the location as we speak.........I know everyone is enthusiastic but we should let them make the location decision and then pile on and help......
Sure hope Craig knew what he was getting into, because this event looks like its going to fly

the north

if I remember correctly, from Barrie, it is about the same to either North Bay or Sudbury, except that the hiway is better to North Bay - 400 to 11
instead of 400 to 69
highway 69 is notorious

Cambrian Club in Sudbury has an excellent field, well suited to large aircraft
Sudbury Model Airplane Club field suffers the same prils as does North Bay
the Sault field has a few trees on the left approach, but we are flying many large airplanes here with little trouble - one member has a 44 lb Beaver

Bob go to links at Maac site, I tried Cambrian but my link was not working. Also Gaston and company developed a new field maybe there might be some hope with the Greater Sudbury Modelers.

travel

Sudbury is a good 3 1/2 hours including a prerequisite stop in Blind River at Tim's

When travelling with my daughter to Ringette tournaments in Hamilton, we did ! 75 to Port Huron and across from there. We felt the drive at about 8 hours was safer than Soo - Sudbury Parry Sound Barrie etc. - all expressways. Withthe issues surrounding entering the States at Sarnia, perhaps that route is less favoured.
Kevin knows better also as he travels south to visit family - Bolton I think.

I would really like to get the Cambrian guys on board for the field for the first pass at this, if for no other reason than to entice more southern ypes to travel north.

I could very easily hold this in the Sault and I think also very easily get the Northern Michigan and Wisconsin flyers here - we have two fellows who ave been travelling to the Sault for over twenty years just for our crappy fun fly in May - both excellent flyers who have been bringing H9 Caps etc just to fly with us.

I have AT LEAST a dozen close IMAC friends in Michigan. Only 1 guy made the effort to come to 2 of our contests, and another one to 1 of our contests.

Please bring me up to speed who ( from Michiga) you expect to attend at the Soo?

I strongly encourage your desire and efforts to hold a contest in the Soo.

However, I think a contest closer to the Golden Horsehoe will be better attended by more guys from "this" area.

Hopefully "the North" can schedule a contest in each area ( the Soo and Sudbury/Northbay.

Yes, remember the WHOLE idea about having a Northern Ontario IMAC contest is to (1) have a contest for us northern boys and hopefully have a good number of SOuthern Ontario friends join us. I dont think how many people we will get from the USA should come into play for this first contest.

I am liking the idea of Cambrian field in Azilda, allthough I still like NB the field at Azilda is very nice...

And its only a wee bit farther...

Damn Yankees

I hear you Bob,
I was speculating on those folks on the north side of the Straits of Mackinaw, who should be Canadains anyway, since we had that territory after the War of 1812
i can think of a half dozen who travel here regularly for our fun fly who would also come to a competition.

But, having said that, I have to agree that the first deal would be better attended by Ontario flyers if closer to Toronto.

If you feel confidentyou will draw at least a half dozen guys ( whereever they come from) then go for it.

The only way a contest will grow in size is to hold the first one ( first ) !!

As long as your date does not conflict with a local contest here, nor one of the Quebec contests I want to attend, I will there to support yours.

I am sure you will also get support from some of the ( other) guys here too ! They have the bug, They feel the need for more.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Bob
there are a few options available to us here and over the next month, when I can communicate better with the other players, we will be able to set some firm plans
