Jeremy,

Regarding the torque roll of Sebastiano's jet. Keep in mind that there are two turbines in this jet, each with it's own independent thrust vectoring. The vectoring is tied to the rudder, elevator and ailerons.

Now, imagine that the plane is in level flight. If you input left aileron, it stands to reason that the left engine would vector up, and the right engine would vector down. This action would enhance the roll capabilities of the jet.

Now, stand the jet on it's tail in a hover and do the same thing. Voila! A "torque" roll without the need for any airspeed over the control surfaces.

Same deal with the rudder and elevator. Input left rudder, both turbines vector left. Input up elevator, both turbines vector up.

Input all at the same time, and each turbine is vectoring independently, to match the given input.

Very cool stuff!

Jim,
It wasn't Seba's jet I was referring to with the torque roll, the two nozzles makes it imaginable, it was with the Lavi that I couldn't figure out how he does the torque roll.

Re: Youtube for you LGM

Ooops. Sorry, didn't read close enough.

I believe the Lavi uses vanes in an + shape direct in the exhaust flow. Vertical vanes hooked to rudder, horizontal vanes hooked to elevator and aileron.

Same principal though.

Regards,
...jim

Re: Youtube for you LGM

Yeah, I figured it must have some kind of vanes or ducting out to the tips of the surfaces in order to do that. Super cool watching a single engine jet do a torque roll!

I should apologize for my previous statements but in any case it was sure nice to watch.
Sorry, John

Interesting to watch but somebody has more money than he knows what to do with.
John

In the hover he's still going to be running probably at least 70% throttle. A turbine will spool very fast from that throttle setting to full power so there really wouldn't be a lag issue. Having said that, the jet doesn't "rocket" out of the hover like a prop plane would so a tiny bit of lag is probably evident. It's just not the 3 second or 4 second lag most are used to hearing about from idle to full power, it's probably spooled all the way in less than a second.

As for the money, I'd rather do that with my money (if I had it) than a lot of other pastimes that many enjoy. I have a customer who owns a race car. The engine in that car is over 30K. They blew the engine during a test run! There's another 30K going back into that engine now. Plus, I can pile a jet in a 200mph and walk away from it LOL, I might be crying, but I can walk away hahaha
