Question Perry Pump woes

Remove this ad - become a site supporter!
I have a Perry Regulating Pump that I have had for 15 odd years and was wondering if the diaphram in these pumps has been known to dry out and crack?

I had the Pump in my CT114 Snowbird (.46 pusher) 15(or more) years ago and has been sitting in a drawer untill a few weeks ago when I put it in my Patriot .60. When I fire up the engine I get gobs of fuel leaking from a small hole (vent hole?) between the inlet and outlets.

I am thinking I need a new pump, or can the diaphram be replaced?

Thanx....Bill

Re: Perry Pump woes

Sure hope someone can answer that one.

I'm in the same boat, only mine has been resting idle for 20 years.

Good luck.

Re: Perry Pump woes

Yes, it sounds like the diaphram is broken. When not in use for extended periods the instructions say to put a piece of fuel tubing from the inlet to the outlet. Did you guys do this? 20 years is a long time either way, but I am just curious. I was doing this to mine even for the winter, but I am wondering if it's necessary.

Re: Perry Pump woes

I have one also that I have had for a long time. Long enough that I can't remember. Maybe one of us should take one apart to see what kind of diaphram is in it. If it is just a membrane type then maybe we can figure out something to use. I don't know of any supplier that sells them now but maybe somebody has an outlet.

Re: Perry Pump woes

I have read a few times that you will wreck them if you take them apart. Not a big deal if it's wrecked anyways, but repairing one may be hard.

Catch 22 here.

If you wreck it you can't repair it but you might find out how to take it apart without wrecking it.

Check out this link.

http://www.perrypumps.com/prod02.htm

At least you can see some pics and info on the different pumps that were made.

I think the plastic ones might come apart but the metal cased ones look as though you need a DIE to form the metal sleeve when it is being installed.

Re: Perry Pump woes

Good timing on this thread. I have a K&B .46 ducted fan engine I am putting in a diamond dust. Engine is 15 years old, but brand new and cant get it to run at all unless I bypass the pump. Guess it's the same problem. Anyway, where did you get the new Pump?

Thanks
