Question
I have a DL 50 and lately I have been noticing gas on top of the fuel tank so I took it out to take a look. There was a bit of gas on the front of the tank and some on the plywood that it sits on. In my plane the gas tank sit right behind the firewall and there is a large hole for carburetor clearance. I checked all the fuel lines and there are no holes and I pumped in gas with the tank out and could not see any gas leaking. So my question is could the gas be coming out of the carb and if so is this normal?
Thanks Tyler |

Re: Question
sounds like your carb is spitting gas inside of the fuselage.make sure you have lots of air getting into the engine.is there a opening around the engine box where the cowl attaches to.it could be that your getting turbalance around the carb and it,s causing a pressure change in the carb and causing it to spit fuel into the fusalage.is your carb set up properly and does it hesitate when you move your throttle from low speed to high.

Re: Question
If it is your carb spitting, build a false firewall between the engine and the rest of your plane out of balsa wood.Fuel proof it and the entire inside of the engine box. Drill a hole in the bottom of the engine box to let the fuel out the spits out of the carb.
I do this with all my rear intake engines.Keeps the whole plane clean and nothing gets soaked with gas and oil |

Re: Question
Thanks for the replies. There is lots of room around the carb so I think it is getting enough air. I do notice that in knife edge sometimes it seems to lose some power and it was mentioned to me that it might cause turbulant air in knife edge, so I think it might be spitting out extra gas into the fuse when this happens.
Thanks |
