Easy To Use LONG RANGE UHF System for our radio

Well Dragon Link TX and RX has been mentioned a few times over the year and it's almost ready. It is extremely simple to use, utilize 433mhz to 435mhz-narrow band frequency, does channel hopping, will suit most radios, comes with 9 channels but can be easily modified for more, easy to use fail safe programming and much more.

Daniel Wee tested this on the ground with his version 1 beta and got 5Km but ran out of road to test it further.

Here is the latest video from Daniel Wee on this system he has put together.

Re: Easy To Use LONG RANGE UHF System for our radio

That is not the complete URL, and is this licensed by FCC and Industry Canadar?

I found the video here

'servo lag' is reduced in newer radios (i.e. 2.4 GHz) by using a faster frame rate, it is not the same in all radios.

Nice to have more options though.

Re: Easy To Use LONG RANGE UHF System for our radio

433Mhz is the frequency Daniel Wee used because it is in the safe zone where there is no rules to stop it's usage. Plug on the ground he got 5Km range and could of gone further but he ran out of roads. So in the air I imagine 20Km or more.

Just received the Dragon Link yesterday and it's smaller than I expected! I need to wait for my new BL Motor and ESC to arrive and I'm ready to rock and roll!

Cool!!! You must update us on your first trials. If you can get a 5km range with no problems, what kind video link do you need to go 5km or is the video part of the unit?

Re: Easy To Use LONG RANGE UHF System for our radio

Actually Daniel just got 6.7km on the ground recently with a few trees and concrete and steel high rise buildings in between with perfect connection with TX and RX. In the air with no obstructions, getting 20km is probably an easy thing to do but I'm not sure if my lipos can handle that kind of range. As for your video range, try this for starters: Lawmate 2.4Ghz - 500mW A/V TX, (use the 5 volt regulator and standard whip antenna that comes with it) and on the ground use the Lawmate RX with a 14db flat patch antenna.)

and if you really want better reception go for this:

but you will need to buy another A/V RX with maybe a 8db patch antenna. 8db for short to medium range and 14db for the really long range stuff.

Wilson at Hobbywireless is a great honest guy to deal with. A heart of gold!!!

BTW my BL motor and ESC still hasn't arrived yet.

Re: Easy To Use LONG RANGE UHF System for our radio

I have the gear for long range video. A lawmate 2.4 1000mw Tx with 6dbi antenna. Standard Lawmate Rx. with 14dbi patch antenna. I've not tested my gear yet. Waiting for good weather to do a maiden flight on my AV plane. I will do alot of flights within visual range and record them for checking reception around my field. The oracle diversity Rx sounds like a good idea along with another Rx and 14 dbi patch antenna. What about the yellow jacket Rx? Alot more expensive but does the same thing as the Oracle I presume, just all in one box.
Any idea when the Dragon link will be avaiable?

Buffy.

Re: Easy To Use LONG RANGE UHF System for our radio

Well Yellow Jacket is a very good unit (uses $20.00 ComTech modules) but high price doesn't mean it is the way to go . The good thing about Thomas's Oracle is it will accept any RX, like 900mhz, 1.2 ghz... what every you throw at it and it will do the job like any diversity but giving you more future flexibility.

I'm still waiting on some parts to finish off my intended plane for the long journey and once success, then I will start assembling Dragon Links. The price will be $340.00 USD for RX and TX combo and for any additional RX, they will be $150.00 USD each. Dragon Link has many unactivated features which can be released by a matter of adding more codes in the software and cheap add-ons. It's the only UHF link I know of that has the ability of bi-directional info packet sending. So my thoughts here is maybe send GPS data through this reliable link so we can maybe implement A/V antenna tracking? Real time Google Earth tracking of our plane via laptop at the field?

Here is a video I did last weekend.... sorry about the poor video shots for I did this alone at the field.
