Trying to get some combat interest going in the club.
I built this Wildcat out of the foam floor insulation from Home Depot. It's 3/4 in. thick with a plastic film on both sides. The film makes it very rigid and strong. To make the wing strong for high G forces I used Laminating strips, also bought from Home Depot. It's an iron on strip used for the front of counter tops ETC.
Seeings it's for combat, it's more of an easy to repair, hotglued together and repaired, disposable plane.
The foam 4 by 8 sheet is about 12 bucks, enough to build 3 or four planes. It is an easy, stable flier.
Wingspan is 3 ft. as a standard, and weighs 12 oz. or about 330 grams, W.O. batt.
I take a 3 view dwg and blow it up to whatever size I want , then use a calculator to multiply all the dimensions by that number, say times 5. to get the 36 I.

Here's a pic of the construction , but it's finished and flying fine.
By the way, the writing on the foam will come off with alcohol.
If you get the veneer edging, make sure it's wood and not plastic. It's not strong enough.

I was just at Lowes, and they had this foam. I thought maybe the blue 1/2" foam may be more useful, I am making something out of it now (well it has been quite a while, but I will do it.) I do like the veneer spar idea, may try that with the 1/2" blue foam on a .25 or even .40 size flat foamy like the blue fanfold electrics. I wonder if it would melt the foam when ironing it on? I guess a regular glue on some veneer is the same thing.

The foam from Home Depot and Lowes has a plastic film on either side that gives it the stiffness. The veneer strip irons on just fine. I use the monocote iron.
There are a number of them in the club now including WW1 warbirds.
These are about 36 in. wingspan and very light as they need little or no bracing. Fun little 3D planes too with the flat plate wings.

$100. all in (1amp/3 cell lipo) and easily repaired between heats with thin CA&kicker (I've had 9 collisions the past three years & still flying the same plane).
