converting rubber powered pitts to electric rc

I have a project, started (embarrasingly) 12 years ago - a Herr kit of the PItts special. Its all built, and mostly covered with tissue. Originally I ws going to power it with a Gasparin CO2 motor, but now that small electric motors and lipo batteries are so light I was thinking of finally finioshing it but converting to electric rc.

I have a few motors to try (I am very new at electrics)... a small park flyer E flite motor from my indoor model, which runs on a 2 cell 350 mah pack.

I also have a bunch of larger motors we are flying on the blue foamy Clicks and Yaks - I am running 2 cell 500 mah packs on a 8 ounce model with excellent results.

The plane is this one:

Do you think just elev and rudder woould be adequate or will I need ailerons for decent controlled flight?

Re: converting rubber powered pitts to electric rc

Hi Andrew,
That looks like an interesting project for a conversion.
I just got my hands on a Guillows B-25 that I am looking to do a small electric conversion on.

Re: converting rubber powered pitts to electric rc

AJC,

when I saw that you've had your Herr Pitts for 12 years, I thought you were embarassing me, so I just had to check how long it's been since I got mine - not yet started. You've beat me by a whopping 3 years!!

Anyway, there is already a small, lightweight Pitts available for outdoor/indoor use with electric power. It's called the Micro Pitts.

A free plans/instructions set is available here as a Zipped PDF file(look at the bottom of the page in the RC section):

http://www.smallflyingarts.com/Free_...free_plans.htm

Lots of other interesting stuff there too, especially for conversion.

Here's a video of the Micro Pitts flying outdoors, doing a ROG take off in about two inches:

With the Micro Pitts, you could save the Herr Pitts build for a rainy day.

BTW, there is also a depron micro Ultimate and a balsa micro Aeromaster.
