Hi all, lady and I were going through the operating instructions on the Hitec and it blew up on it's own.
It was plugged in, but nothing plugged into it or near it, and it sounded like a firecracker and went dead.

Didn't see anything in the instruction manual warning that something like this could happen. Is this normal?

Re: New Hitec X4 AC/pro blew up

We were surprised, standing in the kitchen reading the manual, then pop! She jumped further than I did. Lol
We have a couple back ups here (Turnigy Mega 200 watt x2), so that should get us by for the time being.
We're new to this, and still learning. A lot of info out there and that's quite helpful for us newbs.

I think Hitec will replace it for you but that said, Hitec does not make their own chargers, they private label them from another manufacturer.

Re: New Hitec X4 AC/pro blew up

I will take mine to the kitchen and try it there if you wish, was it in the sink or in the microwave when it popped?

Seriously, I love my X4 ac/dc unit, I need to learn a little more about charging the nimh batteries though, for now I use the default settings and reactivate the charge just to make sure I didn't false peak. For my lipo's and a123's its perfect right out of the box.

Where did you ever get that idea?

Happens we have an 'island' in the kitchen, nice big well lit up work area.
Aside, the distributor informed us that this is the second one that he has sold to which this has happened, so is in transit at this moment for replacement.

(I used to burn circuit boards and dabble a bit with solid state projects, and I would venture to guess that the popping sound was two capacitors that went off like fire crackers)
