Horizon FORCED Losi to sell the 8ights as RTR and race rollers.

This was against Gil's wishes. He fought tooth and nail to have the 8ight-T sold as a kit. They settled on the race-rollers we are seeing today.

I bet this is a major reason he is making the move to Kyosho.

Losi took alot of heat for the race-roller issue..........that said.....what was the big deal?......tear apart and rebuild

Im not a purist......i hate building kits....could be the ADD

question: How long till The DRAKE leaves?

I set the over/under for DRAKE leaving LOSI at 10 months

I say UNDER

Any racer at heart will tell you they want to buy the kit. I know after buying RTR and Kits, I NEVER want to buy another RTR or Race Roller.

I want to build it myself the first time, and know it's done to my expectations. Losi is a racers company, and they where forced to sell something that a true racer does not ideally want.

I think that is a big deal if your Gil. They want all your ideas and R&D experiance, but you lose all creative control, past the R&D stage.

Welcome to BIG BUSINESS......

On a side note. People are saying the 8T is overpriced, considering the lack of aluminum and CF parts on it. The inflated price surely has something to do with them be assembled in the factory.

We have now paid extra for the assembly of a race-roller, only to re-build it ourselves when we get home. Something wrong with that IMO

I'm not sure if the 'roller' price had anything to do with building costs....

a REVO for example still has to be built as its an RTR....yet it costs less than the LOSI Race 'roller'

labour costs in that part of the world are minimal.....ask GM or FORD

RC is growing and is looking to become mainstream.....they are now purpose built machines as opposed to radio control models...

some well known racers in the states dont even wrench on their cars anymore......they just drive.......hardly an endorsement for kit building

as for Gil Losi losing control??.....him and his father sold the company....I am sure the $$$ eased the pain

any true racer or hobbiest does not want to buy rtr or arr kits

rtr's are for the lazy or budget racer/basher's

ouch!

thats why i buy used rollers

but seriously.......i dont expect someone on the rc pro series, GLORCS, or any other 'race' circuit to endorse race rollers.....kits are what its all about.......we all know the reasons why....build it right with personal setup tweaks the first time.......

but what about the club racing circuit

** I for one did not purchase a LOSI race roller(and if i did, i would tear it down a rebuild)

club racing is the lifeblood of the higher circuits......considering that recently in the past 2 yrs alone here....the GLORCS has grown in popularity....alot of former bashers.......RTR's dont look so bad now

the race roller simply provides an alternative to the RTR.....for the guy who wants something PRO spec but at the same time is built.....ironically enough.....most old schoolers developed build habits from years ago, whereas alot of newbies use the opposite approach.....buy RTR and than tear down, upgrade, and maintain...usually leads to next purchase being a kit

The LOSI roller provided a stop-gap for those wanting a pre-built PRO spec ride......they quite possibly could use the same electronics(servos-controller reciever) from their RTR and p/u a sport big block for $150

Im not so sure that we should be quick to dismiss the 'race' roller option just yet......it is a shame however that LOSI didnt offer a kit of the truggy ....that i agree with...

so they offer RTR and kits now......maybe RTR, 'Race' Rollers, Kits are the next evolution
