Re: Need help with car

First of all, your radio should be the first thing on and last thing off all the time. This will help against run-aways.

If the car goes when the switch is off, something is wrong. The switch might be bad.

As far as using your other radio, is it the same frequency and brand as the one in the car?

Re: Need help with car

Hey Dustin,
The more info you can provide the better we can help you.

What brand and model radio? what speed control is in it?

You need to make sure the transmitter is on first and off last. Imagine the bigwig is turned on first and looking for instructions as to what to do. If the Tx is not transmitting the car can do whatever it wants.

Re: Need help with car

If it is the original mechanical speed controller then as long as the batteries is pluged in then the car could run. Make sure you radio is on before the caris turned on and the battery is pluged in.

Re: Need help with car

I'm not sure if Tamiya made RTR back then, it might be an aftermarket radio.

Also, if it's original equipment then it's probably a MSC (mechanical speed controller). I'd personally suggest replacing that with an ESC. The old MSC's didn't have a BEC so the receiver and servo got the same voltage as the battery. I'm also not a big fan of switches, just another failure point.

Maybe post a picture without the body on so we can help you more.

Re: Need help with car

The ESC (electronic speed control ) controls power from the battery to the drive motor depending on the throttle request from the receiver throttle channel. basically the battery plugs into the speed control and it supplies power to you reciever.

A mecanical speed control is direcly connected to a servo.

Do you have two servos or just one steering servo, a reciever and a "black box" (esc)?
