Elec Connections - HobbyKing Ultra Micro Servo 1.7g for 3D Flight

Anyone found an easy solution to getting these:

HobbyKing Ultra Micro Servo 1.7g for 3D Flight

To plug into these:

OrangeRx R415 Spektrum DSM2 Compatible 4Ch Micro 2.4Ghz Receiver

?

I did the pin shuffle to align the appropriate gnd/+/sgnl but the physical connector will not fit properly into the jacks on the R415.

My only solution was to splice one of these onto the wires:

Micro Servo Connector Lead 1.25 Pitch - Female Plug

The problem is it is super tedious working with such small wires and the shrink tube adds so much weight.

I'm attaching a pic with before (top) and after (bottom).

Anyone have any better techniques for resolving this? The circuit board is surface mount and the wires there are buried under some (guessing) silicone or something. Too dangerous with my fat soldering iron (pencil tip) and feeble fingers to get at.

Help!

Thanks,
J

Re: Connections - HobbyKing Ultra Micro Servo 1.7g for 3D Flight

Mine plugged in no problem but I was disappointed with that linear servo. It was just too slow for what I wanted

I ordered some of the ultra micro orange servos and they were much faster and I was very pleased with them and ordered more for future use. They also plugged into the 4ch orange rx with no problem and they were wired correctly.

Re: Connections - HobbyKing Ultra Micro Servo 1.7g for 3D Flight

Thanks Chris... yeah, I'm a huge fan of the orange ones - use them on other foamies I have. My dilemma here is that I bought these darn things and wanted to use them and not have them wasted.

Doing a physical inspection of the plugs (even under a magnifying glass) the connectors are virtually identical. The only thing I can guess is that these have such a small wire that the crimped connectors are too small for the pins on the R415 - or, in my case, maybe I got an over crimped batch?!

I'll try again.... I've also thought about stripping the lead wire off the board, using some solder on each wire to effectively create 'pins' and then soldering the new lead to that finishing it off with a glob of silicone or hot glue to keep the pins isolated.

Anyway.... I'll see what I can do, but if you or anyone else has any more ideas I'm open.

Thanks
J

Re: Connections - HobbyKing Ultra Micro Servo 1.7g for 3D Flight

Darn! So I just hit send on that and thought I'll give it one last try with the top (before) servo in that pic. It was more stiff than my orange servos to plug in, but did finally push in!

Now I'm wondering if I just twisted the original crimp on that first servo when I did the wire shuffle such that it resisted pushing in, etc.

Hmmmmmmmmm......

Thumbs up Re: Connections - HobbyKing Ultra Micro Servo 1.7g for 3D Flight

Okay... more findings...

The crimps are a bit tight. On a 3rd servo I had the same issue (not able to push the plug in) and resolved it by using a T-pin to 'open' the pin holes a bit on the servo plug. Basically stuck it in and wiggled it a bit. It then pushed onto the Rx fine.

Also... I had a 'slow' servo in my batch here. I've seen others report that some of these were slow. This one was slow in one direction and okay'ish in the other. So, I just dropped a touch of WD-40 on each side of the worm gear (?) beside the servo arm - ie. in the track - and like magic, the servo is now as fast or faster than the other ones in BOTH directions!

Thanks for reading and the help guys!

Good to hear you have it worked out.

I went back and pulled my linears out of storage and tried plugging them into a spare orange r415 RX. Again no problem, they plugged right in. They sure are a bugger to pull them out though. There is a little snap catch on the side.

Re: Connections - HobbyKing Ultra Micro Servo 1.7g for 3D Flight

Yeah.... they are tough to pull out due to the thin wires. I try to get my nails on the collar of the servo plug and pull from that vs. the wires - which we know are too thin to be pulling on .

Thanks again for all the help.
