Recessed panel lines / rivets

It seems that I have too much time on my hands, or the fumes are getting to me. I am working on a 1/6th P51 and have decied to add recessed panel lines and rivets, (not to compete in scale, but to develop some more?? skill). It's either that or build a whirly gig for the flower beds.

I recall reading some where to tape off your lines over your primer, shoot more primer, then water sand off the tape and remove tape. Voila, recessed panel lines.

I also think that to add raised rivets, I am to dab on carpenters glue from a needle and let it dry at the second last coat of primer.

Need and can't find any 1/16th fine line masking tape. Am I on track here or what.

I have also posted in Construction Ideas

Panel lines

The thin masking is what I have used for the panel lines and it has worked well for me! The P-51 has flat rivets so I used a ruler to make my track and then a tool I made from a old soldering gun, using a piece of brass fuel line, then depending on your covering just adjust your heat and go. Then if you wish you can add the line in there or the extra dot! Hope that helps!!

Hi,

1/16" will be far to big.

You definitely want to use 1/64" panel line tape (also know as Chartpak tape). This tape is perfect for making panel lines.

We have hundreds of rolls in stock. We have white or black (use white for a dark primer, or black for a light primer so that you can easily see it when you sand.) This tape has a very clean edge and won't stick to much to pull up the coat below.

Here is a link to it on our website: http://www.thunderboltrc.com/index.p...fbi3v3atoj3rh3

Just scroll down a bit for each. Note we also have 1/32" tape as well. You can use that for any panels that were removable on the plane (access hatches, etc.) As these panels generally had a wider gap than the regular panels.

Good Luck,

Grizak
