OK guys heres one for ya, how much do our large, eg. 130 ozin servo's draw while we fly? i am asking because i see these voltage regulators that are worth between $30 and $60 us, and i can't figure out why they are so expensive, is it because of the amp load? i can get 5.7 volt regulators from work that will handle 5 amps, for a lot less than $30, Is there something i am missing?

Below is a copy and past from the futaba site FAQs

Can you tell me what the maximum stalled current is on (insert name here) servo is?
Stalled current is going to vary depending on many conditions, but a basic approximation is:

Standard servos= .6 amps
1/4 Scale servos= 1.6 amps
Hi Torque servos= 1.6 amps

The only infomation I found on Hitec was for digital servos and it indicated 2 amps... WOW

I have done this testing on my pattern models.....

YS 140, Hyde type soft mount.

Futaba servos - 9602 on throttle, 9151 rudder, 9252 elevator, x2 9150's ailerons.

Engine off - 100 mah

Idle (2000 rpm) 500-600 mah

From midrange to full throttle there is not much change, around 1.1-1.2 amps.

Flight loads will be higher yet. Considering this is on basically a "perfect" glow setup I would say Futaba's estimates are very conservative.....I could easily beleive my numbers would double without a soft mount.

Hey Bill

If you can get hold of the September/October issue of 3-DFlyer Magazine on page 50 there is an article intitled "Servo Test" I think you will be surprised at the results of the four major brands tested.

Heres an exserpt from the article testing each Mfg's high end digital servos.

100% of Max. Load:

JR. 1.8 Amps
Airtronics 2.1 Amps
Futaba 1.9 Amps
Hitec 1.6 Amps

"The Hitec HS 5945 Digital Ultra servo was found to use the least amount of current from the onboard battery pack, with a no-load current draw of 4 mAh and a maximum load current of 1.6 amp. The results for the Hitec digital servo were compared to the other servos examined in the test."

This was quoted word for word from the magazine article!

Check out the article for the complete test and how it was conducted!
