That's the way these engines are.
Without actually being there, we are all guessing at the probable cause from your description.
The same symptom can be caused by different faults.
It's often a matter of trial and error until you get it right.

One more thing to check -- make sure that the pressure nipple on the muffler is not blocked by crud. Black gunk sometimes builds up inside the muffler and occasionally plugs the pressure nipple. That is the tank vent as well as a pressure source -- it will kill the engine after a minute or so of running.

that muffler nipple blocking almost killed one of my birds last summer
it blocked while doing tork rolls at 30 or so feet with my twist
the 72 just died could not get it running more than 10 or so seconds then noticed fuel running back to tank when engine stopped
and found nipple blocked solid.
first time in so many thousands flights but S___ hapens LOL
