One other thing to note on a lack of understanding about aircraft specificaly RC, is proper aircraft trimming. While you can have a lifetime of fun without ever worring about this, knowing how to porperly trim an aircraft can be extremely helpfull in advancing skill and to some degree preventing unneccisary crashes.

I would also like to thank all the instructors across Canada and at my clubs for doing such a tireless and time consuming job helping the new folks to the hobby. The instructors deserve our thanks and praise for doing so much to increase the enjoyement and safety for all of us.

Decrease Airspeed or SLOW DOWN!

Yes initially you will climb a little bit as you trade forward motion for altitude but the primary function of the Elevator is to control Airspeed, NOT make the aircraft climb or descend. Thrust controls climbing and descending.

These are the type of things you need to know to fly proficiently and safely, wether it be full scale or models.

When you want to climb you:

1) Change the attitude of the aircraft so that the nose is pointed up by pulling back on the Yoke or Stick. This will result in the aircraft slowing down.
2) Increase thrust by adding power, throttle up, thrust takes over and now the airplane climbs because the nose is pointed up and thrust is greater then gravity.

When you want to descend you:

1) Reduce Power
2) Change the Attitude of the aircraft again by lowering the nose to keep airspeed up and see where you are going.

I will have the student after 75-100 reach over and pull the throttle back. Pre- instruction, we disscus what that i am going and the students job will be to keep the plane from stalling and maintain wings level airspeed up graudually add power and to go regain control.

here is a good little clip that shows a pilot luanching in high winds,probiably at wind speeds very similair to his trim speed hence the slow ground speed ,,add a liitle vertical lift and things seem a little hard to believe buy the way ,the swift glider has a top speed of about 80 knots ,,i suspect the wind speed to be near 40 knots
