Unusual Ideas and Resources

Dave Holmes has given me an idea and I wonder if there would be any interest. Start a thread where you could find/post unusual resources to enhance building of our models. Keep it simple by naming the resource, what was purchased and for what purpose.

I know some are going to say this should be in a construction or a scale area but I am hoping that we can keep it here and perhaps encourage others to open up to the creativity of what is referred to as bashing. This is where you utilize your imagination to make something literally out of nothing or from something totaly unrelated that will add to the look of the finished project.

To keep everything on a single post at the beginning one could email or pm me with the basic information. If they choose they could elaborate with detailed instructions and pictures in a post further down the thread. If you choose to do this let me know and I can connect it with a link. For example we can start with

Blisters, Cowl, Fuse and Wings
Michaels Craft Stores, Plastic Eggs all sizes cut in half and glue to surface.

Absolutely, I have always believed that building and fabricating will come back on a grand scale. ARFS definately have thier good points but there is very little pride of ownership.

This is where we need to change our thought process. There are many reasons why one may choose an ARF. For instance I like the 1/3 Pitts by Great Planes. I knew from the instructions that there were stronger ways to put this together. I also knew there would be lots of red and white 1/3 scale Pitts out there. I uncovered the arf and re-enforced it where I felt it was needed then I recovered it in a color scheme I liked G-FLIK http://www.aerographic.com/g-flik.htm I even took the time to email the owner and we sent several emails back and forth. I have pride in ownership of my ARF.

Totaly agree. It happen most of the times, when you scratch buid. The usual hobby stores, carry materials/parts for what sels the most ( RTF/ARF).
Only takes a bit of imagination to see what you need, packed for another purpose.

Hey Dennis,

I didn't know that Micheals had that latex molding stuff for making pilots etc! I was wondering where to get that.

Wonder if they have anything for making cowl molds?????
