Re: BOT: Silver Dart makes first flight in Hamilton, next stop Baddeck

Hi Byrocat,

I think it is very cool.

Hope they have some good weather in Baddeck on Feb 23rd.

My friend is part of the Hamilton Warplane Museum and saw it happen.

Apparently, they moved the CG fwd to 30% and it flys better than the original ! ! !

The progress in 100 yrs... Amazing ! ! !

Great Canadian History.

Take care,
Have fun,

It saddens me slightly that both the Golden Arrow Sabre and the Silver Dart are from the U.S.

Where is the Avrocar? What happened to Project Y?

Re: BOT: Silver Dart makes first flight in Hamilton, next stop Baddeck

Hi moo,

Thanks for that photo...

Is it just me?... Or, are those incidences on the wings/canard impossible? ? ?

I've never seen 'opposing' wing washouts...? ? ?
(They used the original plans ! )

Brave Project. Just like 1909.

The rear wheels are from a small motocross bike. The seat is from a kitchen stool.

6000 man/hrs of donated time...

Too Cool !

Canadian History !

A small team from our club, the Stetson Flyers, has been building a 1:7 scale flying replica of the Silver Dart that will be flown at several events in commemoration of this historic event. You can read more about the project at http://www.stetsonflyers.com

You can watch a quick video of the ground testing here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yO3GnEkQaxc.

Hi Scott,

Way Cool.

I like the tethered 'not control lined' test flights ! ! ! HeHeHe

Make sure the 'Silver Dart' team gets your links..

They will appreciate it.(and the man/hours involved)

Canadian History is Great.
(The rest of the World will eventually learn from us ! HeHeHe)

Re: BOT: Silver Dart makes first flight in Hamilton, next stop Baddeck

it is indeed a special occasion to celebrate a 100 th anniversary of the first flight in the British Commonwealth. Although test flown in Upper Canada, I am sure the real test will be in Baddeck, the real birthplace of Canadian aviation.
As a Canadian by choice ( the most of you had no choice).

I coined the phrase "the only people who do not appreciate Canada are Canadians themselves" shortly after I came to this wonderful country in 1966, and still believe this is still as true as ever.
Canada takes the "middle of the road" realistic viewpoint on the world and is the envy of all progressive countries.

A little note of disappointment, is that a couple of years ago a Maritime Canada proposal of a Silver Dart R/C replica was suggested,to be flown at Baddeck on the Anniversary, but in spite of offering my services, I never got any feedback and nothing of any consequence resulted.
