Mid Michigan IMAC - July 19/20

Folks - I saw Mike Roxberry in Muncie last weekend and he told me that the balloon festival is back on the same weekend. So hotels are booking up fast. I tried my two favourites (Holiday Inn and Hampton Inn) but they are both booked up already. Even some of the lower level hotels are asking crazy prices.

So just a heads up, if you are planning to go and are not camping you may want to make a reservation soon.

Re: Mid Michigan IMAC - July 19/20

Bill,

I went on Price line 2 nights ago and got into the Travelodge, closest hotel to the event, for CDN$ 46/night. Had to secure with a credit card but not billed. I can still cancel right up to 6 pm on Friday night before the contest.

See everyone there!

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Sloppy Joes! and Ice Cream!

Re: Mid Michigan IMAC - July 19/20

Congratulations to my Canadian colleagues - I think we showed very well in Michigan and waved the flag proudly:

Advanced (6 pilots) - 2nd - Greg Marsden, 3rd - Bryan Mailloux, 4th - Lee Prevost, 6th - Helmut Schmitter

Intermediate (3 pilots) - 1st - Frank Klenk (way to go Frank !!), 2nd - Bill Teeter

Sportsman (10 pilots) - 2nd - Glen Lundrigan, 3rd - Jason Paine, 4th - Brendan Grace, 5th - Ariel Peters Jack, 10th - Gaston Boissonneault

Basic (8 pilots)- 4th - Steve Ruxton - 1st US contest !! If you had not had engine problems Steve you might have been in the winners circle !!

It was a great weekend and I think we did Canada proud.

Re: Mid Michigan IMAC - July 19/20

I know this looks crazy but the numbers actually seem to add up. When I first looked at them I could not understand how someone who had all 1000's in known round scores could come second. Greg did a terrific job of winning so many known rounds but if you look at Bryon's scores he was only 10-20 points behind in each round.

The scaling of the unknowns to be 20% of the total contest score is where you can win or lose these contests. As hard as it is to believe the 90 point differential between Bryon and Greg in the Unknowns is where Bryon squeaked through by 6 points into first.

Both of these pilots fly extremely well and it is always hard when a few points separate 1st and 2nd, especially with contestant judging. Both of them deserve a round of applause.

Re: Mid Michigan IMAC - July 19/20

I judged some advanced rounds and I can say that both Greg and Bryon are machines, very few errors in their flights. What a battle!
