Just got back from Toledo. Ho Hum, been there, done that! Everything seems to be pre-built ARF's. Kind of like an adult "Toys 'R' Us".

Isn't it sad that the days of true modelling are finaly over?

Kits will probably be twice the price of ARFS, if you can find one.

You guys couldn't have seen the static display down the center of show Yet another load of unbelievable airplanes , jets,heli's, cars and boats .Didn't see many arfs there . Just a gobs of pride and craftsmanship on those tables . There are still lots of plans for everyone out there though.

There was a definate focus on and abundance of arfs, but kits are
still available but just not as prominent. You have to search a bit
more then before. I picked up an Edge 540P Kit from Ohio Models.
WS: 80 5/8" L: 71" Wt: 11lbs. Wing area: 1632 sq. in. 2pc. wing
and an OS 1.60FX and pipe for it. Hope mine looks this good when
it's done

You know, kits really do cost more than arf's, I built a Dynaflite Decathlon over the winter and I figure it would have been $150-200 cheaper to get the ARF!!!!! Thats just not right, but at least I know there is glue on every joint on mine....

I have built both kits and ARF's and scratch built. I guess the "true modelers" felt the same way as Ed does about ARF"s when kits came into vogue. I think it is a bit pressumptious to claim to be a "true modeler " just because you assemble kits and others assemble ARF's.

If I use Ed's analogy the true modeler builds from scratch and designs his own aircraft, engines etc., anyone can assemble a "kit" just like an ARF.

Sorry Ed just my opinion but modelers who fly ARF's have just as much place as modelers who assemble kits.......designed by "true modelers"

I realise I am a Dinosaur.

I draw my own plans, I build my own airplanes, I make my own molds, I mold my own props and I rework my own engines. And although I have never built an ARF I would know how to repair it, a lost art to most.

I suppose that before I can claim to be a true modeller I should go to the forest and chop down the Balsa tree.......wait a minute, I should really plant the seed first and wait for it to grow. The trouble is I do not have that amount of time left on this earth!
