Smile Toki 40 help

Hi everyone, I am in desperate need of help. I am completely new to the rc world so bear with me. I bought a used century heli with a toki 40 that is impossible to get going. I managed to get it running yesterday with a os 6 plug in it, but it was still hard to start. When it did start it ran good although the settings I have on the needles are nothing like the manual. The low idle is almost 8 turns and the high is 4 turns. I put in a os 8 today and nothing; I read some people had better luck with the #8. I never got a chance to try the 6 again as my new starter crapped out. I replaced all the fuel line too. Does air temp matter? It was about 5C today compared to 10 yesterday. I am getting very frustrated with the whole rc concept. Even my trainer plane does not fly, the only thing that flys great is my 3 dollar pink styrofoam that I built with absolutely no plans Am I doomed to fly the simulator forever? Thanks for any input as I can't seem to find much on trouble shooting these motors.

Cheers

Re: Toki 40 help

Omega 5% by morgan fuel, the guy at the hobby shop said it would work in both aircraft and helis. It was cheap too around 17 dollars/ gal, so I was happy- be good for training

Re: Toki 40 help

I had the number 8 in it... no go. With the #6 it fired up but it was 5 degrees warmer out too. I will give the 20% nitro a go next time I go to the city.

Re: Toki 40 help

Well it usually an issue of "fuel" or "fire". Some other issues to look at: Is the compression good, how long has it sat, is the carb gummed up, is the fuel filtered......

There are lots of things, I have had trouble when the glow driver battery is low on charge.

I have been told glow engines are like a good woman, a fine wine......once you figure out how to pamper them......

Re: Toki 40 help

I am leaning towards the fire part, compression is really good and I had the carb off to clean it, went through the heli from one end to the other due to being used. The heli has the align voltage regulator with starter that I have been using to light the plug. Maybe I will use my rechargeable lighter-keep the plug hot longer?

Re: Toki 40 help

Air leaks are another common issue. Hey I am just new to this thing too, but have had to trouble shoot engine issues for a lifetime.

I think pipercub17 is on to something though, fuel with 15% more snap to it might be a good start. Assuming fuel is getting to the carb, and combustion chamber.

I am unfamiliar with heli stuff, but can you put a glow plug in you glow drive off the engine, and see what it does? Sometimes it doesn't take much crud in by the glow wire to bugger them up.

Good luck, I am sure someone will be on early in the AM am have good ideas.

Re: Toki 40 help

She is getting plenty of fuel, comming out the exhaust after 20 min of cranking lol. I have checked the plug many times already and it is glowing nice and bright and no real flooding issues. I guess its a trip to the city for some 20% fuel. I am looking for the challenge of learning to fly, not to start the dam thing-I have enough of that for work lol.

Cheers
