I was at the Shelby Ohio RC Rally on the weekend and a fellow there was flying a Tango with an 18 lb turbine. He indicated to me that he thought a 12 lb turbine would fly this jet quite nicely althought not with as much authority as his did.

I was wondering if anyone here has flown the Tango with this smaller turbine. I think this would be a nice second jet but do not want to buy another turbine, just yet anyway and would like to consider the purchase of a Tango and the price is reasonable and its quite a nice looking machine.

Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

If it was me, I wouldnt want anything less than a P80 (18 pounds) in the Tango, especially off grass.

The Tango with a RAM 500 12Lbs turbine will fly, reasonably well, nothing super amazing as far as performance goes, but not recomended to fly off grass fields, especially short fields. The power is not there should you need to get out of trouble.

I am looking into a Tango but will use an 18Lbs for sure. Will most likely not use retracts on grass either.

On the other hand, Andrew is right...the AV8R you have is a good turbine trainer especially if you are bypassing the ducted fan like I did. It will come together and build quick, and before you know, it will be ready.

Not sure what was in it for power but it MOVED!

Myles, it had a P80 in it.
With a P80, the power to weight ratio is 1:1.

That looks like Marc's Tangp....

The engine mounting plates are moulded right in the fuse, and the starter motor may hit the wing tube on some turbines...some turbines will fit, others wont...
