Do you mean Noise, Cost or Performance.. actually big difference in all three.

Cans cost more, are quieter and will give slight performance boost.

Who told you no diff?

I just ran my DA 100 last Saturday on the stock mufflers and yoooowwwsers she was loud. Course the exhaust stacks had been severly chopped but.....

Hi Neil,

Yes there can be a performance boost between all three sytems..On canisters if setup properly you may gain up to 200 rpm over standard muffs..
Anytime you can gain 100 rpm on the larger props it does make a noticable difference in performance...
On tuned pipes you will gain even more, possibly 500 rpm or more but it generally comes with a peaky throttle and usually requires time to tune them properly unless you can find someone that has already gone through it....
Of course the down side to canisters is the weight gain over the muffs. For me the quietness of the cans is more than worth it....
I've heard that MTW has new tuned pipe that has a better midrange that may be worth looking at..

Not an engine guru Neil, but yes if you gain 2 or 300 rpm you will definately see a substancial improvement in performance.

Silhavy 35% Yak 54 Kit......will start after I finish my 33% SD Yak ith DA 85.

Specs:

Yak 54 32.5%
Wingspan 107.5", Length 99"
Weight 27.5 lbs +/- 1lb
Recommended Engine size 100-110cc

But Toby and I are puttingit on a serious diet to get it down to 24 lbs.

Notice how nice and regular size the control surfaces are? This plane was designed from the start for IMAC NOT 3D.... finaly someone who thinks like me.

Niel so what do you want to put a 100 in?

Neil has asked a very timely question and I am just in the process of looking at cans also for a DA 100 that I am supposed to have in hand next week. Will be going into an AW Extra 260 35% which is on the floor of my workroom at the moment. (yes I listened to advice from Randy and Lee !).

Anyway, it would be useful to get some direct recommendations on types of cans /headers that folks are running - some of these foreign websites are not clear on what fits best with what engine. For folks running MTW or KS, any words of wisdom ? I was about to call DA to try and get some direct info but would appreciate any suggestions you folks have.

Hi Bill, just a cautionary note. I don't remember what cans & headers we use on our DA-100/AW 260 but I do remember that the ones indicated in the manual are not the right ones. DA will be able to tell you exactly which ones to get, though.

Hi Isabel - thanks for that advice. Sounds like I better make a call to DA to make sure I understand the options.

Anyone who has good or bad experiences with whatever cannisters they have run, we would appreciate your feedback.
