Balsa USA 1/4 Scale Neiuport 17 BUILD

Early this past Spring at the Toledo RC Expo, I purchased a Balsa USA 1/4 Scale kit of the WWI French war plane, the Neiuport 17. Also purchased the complete accessorie package including a spun aluminum cowl, 7" scale wheels, decals and the two different machine gun kits. This was the plane featured in the movie "Fly Boys!"

Its been some time since I have actually built a plane from a Kit. And I sincerely hope that the term "built from a kit" is politically correct these days! But I was wondering if there would be any interest on this site for this type of build as I would like to do a documented build thread of this plane over the winter months?

Gary, yes do a build please. A club member built a similar airplane, and it was beautiful. Get the picture posting thing working, and then take lots of photos. Thanks, Daren

Gary

I am also very interested in your Nieuport 17 project. I would love to watch your progress
on RC Canada. I am a confirmed biplane nut with a particular interest in WW1 aircraft.
Good luck with your build.

Tim

Thank you very much for the input fellows. I will get things together presently and start on the building.

This is the plane that you will be helping me do the flying wires on Bill. Please!

Yes, do a build thread Gary. I love the old WW1 planes. I built a Balsa USA Phaeton 90 a couple years ago and it is a beautiful looking and flying plane. Lots of cutting, trimming and shaping with the Balsa USA kits but well worth it in the end. I would love to do the Balsa USA Fokker DR1 Triplane someday.

Re: Balsa USA 1/4 Scale Neiuport 17 BUILD

Hi Gary,

Please do a build thread! I have acquired a partially built kit, (and I would say that term is PC), of the Sopwith Pup from the same manufacturer. Mine landed in my hangar with wings framed and fuse almost framed. I'd guess that over half the work is done. Lucky me!

It came with the aluminum cowl, scale wheels, decal set, and the gun. It also came with a G26 and I'm at the 'pondering what to cover it with' stage this month. When the cold weather hits I'll be sanding and gluing the evenings away.

Are you going all out with it? I ask that question because I saw an ad briefly on the internet last week about a full cockpit kit for about $68 USD and I'm on the fence about it. It looked really nice all finished in laquered oak and fine wire with the big nostalgic instruments... I'm sure I'll find it again and if you're interested in looking for one for your plane I'd be happy to share any info I can.

Mike.

A fellow member build this plane from scratch, all he had was one picture and the movie "Fly Boys" to copy from. He did an awsome job.
Good luck with your build.

I just finished off reorganizing my work shop, new building table, some new shelves, plus a major cleanup. I am having the local gas company come by this week to do an estimate on having a gas heater installed to keep out the cold. Just a bit more work and I will be ready to go on the build.

Thanks again to everyone for all the interest. I will get on to it soon!
